Season 10, vol3 Love dares you

Yeah. Buffy and Spike together again. Season 7, 8, 9 and 10. Always that tension. And now ... relief. 🙂

Wow, what a journey. Thank you for that, Joss Whedon.

Yeah. Buffy and Spike together again.

Thank you for that, Joss Whedon.

But you have to remember, Joss and "Happily Ever After" are direct opposites. Sooner or later, the hammer just HAS to fall.

Plus, all seeing Angel has already made his pronouncement on the relationship. "It'll never last. We're talking Spike, here," and, who can argue with the recipient of the cookie dough speech?

There's an iceberg in the middle of the good ship "Spuffy'" course, mark my words.

An iceberg, or maybe a torpedo.

As Snoopy might say, "Curse you, Joss Whedon!"

Especailly one that have had 'you're doomed' written all over them since that first kiss in the graveyard.

This seems to be the most obvious break-up since 'But she doesn't love me' Briley back in S5.

As you have being saying this for years now (about Spuffy being dead because of this or that), if it happens, please don't say "I told you so", because it will be awkward. Pop the champagne quietly without much fuss... 😛

An iceberg, or maybe a torpedo.

Hurricane, earthquake or a simple rainy day... anyway, so far, their story has being beautiful. Buffy said she is in love with him, she trusted him with her life, they talked and addressed their most problematic issue, Angel came and went without cause any problem, she is giving him what he gives her everyday: strength - and all that is really bothering the evil side, to the point they want them apart.

I believe that I'm on record in saying that I don't particularly mind S10 Spuffy and am in fact wanting there to be less focus on the 'doom and gloom' stuff. Just let 'em alone for a bit.
But whatever, you continue to make stuff up.

**** that! I'm gonna gloat long and loud. I've had to put up with all this Spuffy crowing. 😛

Don't be so optimistic. With a loud vocal Buffy/Vampire fanbase disapproving Buffy/Human, and without any new souled vampires introduced, they may continue teasing them with the Spuffy Bangel triangles for many more seasons! *shudder*

Riley's unpopularity turned Buffy the Vampire Slayer into Buffy the Vampire Shagger. Goddammit.

Don't be so optimistic.

I can't help it (I know I shouldn't be that optomistic) but to me I'm so pleased that they pulled the trigger on Spuffy and are actually doing things with it, because when its done there's no going back.
Can anyone see Bangel happening again after Twilight? So with both vamps out of the way its unexplored territory. It's actually what they should've done when the comics started- forget about Buffy/vampire romance because those storylines have been the most damaging to the brand.

It was more like Spike's popularity and hotness that led to Buffy sleeping with let another vampire. Now the whole Buffy-vamp thing is a running joke (Vicky comments on it when she and Buffy first meet). If Buffy goes for yet another, newer, vampire? Franchise over.

The series needs to do something fresh. Either concentrate on Buffy without any particular romantic attatchment (I am utterly disappointed that Buffy- the title character- hasn't had her own character arc in S10. Her character arc has been 'Spuffy' and nothing else. It's terrible) or give her someone new- maybe and original character? I dunno, that seems unlikely or perhaps undo-able in these comics, so I hope they take a break from this plodding shipper crap for a while.

And Riley was such a miss!!! he degraded so fast from a guy majoring in psychology who can hold a conversation with Willow on the subject
and probably assist Welsh in her morally abitigous research on sentient beings to someone too naive and ignorant to recognize what's happening around him, everytime checking the army regulations (or what it's called)
on how to tie his shoelaces. ewww.
If not her sudden death, i think Wells was well on her way to insert some tweaks and make him more frankenstein-like (but hopefully not as boring as Adam)
he could have had a real conflict with buffy about the initiative, he could have been her equal... instead we got a bigot, one who cannot even TALK OUT his relationships when encountering problems. TA, my ass.

but what with the show being a supernatural one featuring a world with demons and vamps, using them as metaphors that could sink a battleship,
and one of these vamps got his own show featuring his journey and his complex relationships, i can't say i feel socked and repulsed that
we got the heroine - yet again - involved in relationship (and of an epic proportions this time) with a vamp.

Well they may be treated as Zoe/Wash in Firefly. I personally would like to see this outcome: no more back-and-forth romance drama. Great!

Yeah. They really don't need to see the appealing of love story tricks already played again and again. They did it pretty well in AtS already. Faith feeding herself to Angelus to capture it alive has nothing to do with romance. God, she was not even quite a friend with Angel. That's as intense as any romance/foe stuff but much less boring.

It's actually what they should've done when the comics started- forget about Buffy/vampire romance because those storylines have been the most damaging to the brand.

In your opinion. Without Angel and Spike, the show would not last so long, I'm sure. The proof is exactly in the comics - almost 20 years of Buffyverse, and here we are discussing Buffy and Spike! While I notice that, about A&F S10, few people bother to discuss the monthly issues.

NOT having an arc? Are you kidding? She is having the biggest arc of her life – an adult Buffy dealing with her love life, with a person with whom she has a history, a vamp she has known for years - while still fighting the forces of evil and kicking ass. Buffy's love life was always a big deal on the show, be that with Angel or Riley or even Spike, so you can say that you are not liking it, but not that Buffy “doesn't have an arc”.

or give her someone new- maybe and original character?

That would be an arc for her? Going to the movies and pic-nics with a new character? I would prefer a divorced Riley coming back, and Buffy trying to love him one more time - at least, they have history.

All ships sink in the Sunnydale triangle.

I was thinking of how ironic the whole thing will be if one more ship sinks in the Buffyverse - the theory that immortals don't change, while seeing how much Joss Whedon hasn't changed after so many years! Because it's him who calls the shots, not Gage, obviously.

In your opinion.

Well yeah, on an opinions board you tend to get people giving their opinions, unless they have facts to back them up. Pretty reduntant to say this.

Without Angel and Spike, the show would not last so long, I'm sure.

Pure speculation really. Many people enjoyed Season 4 and 5 of Buffy just fine and there's really no Bangel or Spuffy to speak of. For many the show was more about isolation, the meaning of family, growing up and adulthood, rather than who Buffy looks best with whilst kissing.

It's true that Angel was popular enough to get is own show and move out of Buffy's shadow and now he has his own comic to read and comment on. That might explain some of the longevity. Spike is popular but also devisive in his own right, hard to say if he helped the franchise say alive. He wasn't in most of Season 8 and that sold quite well for a while (better than the S9/10 sales).

The proof is exactly in the comics - almost 20 years of Buffyverse, and here we are discussing Buffy and Spike! While I notice that, about A&F S10, few people bother to discuss the monthly issues.

On this board people comment of Buffy more but not on the comicBuffy boards- then its about even. Lots of people love the return of Fred/Illyria for example.

And also people read Buffy to follow the characters of Willow, Xander, Dawn and Giles and their stories, not just Buffy and Spike as you so assert. Your Spuffy bias is clearly blinding you to the fact that there are other characters in the Buffyverse that people might find interesting. 😉

NOT having an arc? Are you kidding? She is having the biggest arc of her life

Its truly sad that you think this. The fact of Buffy having a boyfriend is not new nor is it particularly interesting (imo! 😛) and, as i have stated, it is not her arc, it is the Spuffy arc. The attempts to inject drama and/or angst into this has failed because the writers can't think of anything new to say about them, they have to make crap up about Buffy's love life to create fake tension that never goes anywhere.
Buffy has always been much more than whoever she is currently dating- even when she was a teenager, on the show or even in the comics- she always had her own thing going on as well as the romance stuff. Every character in S10 so far (apart from Willow) has more going on than Buffy. Tragic that she's been reduced to this.

If i had to chose one ship only, it'd be probably Spuffy. As such, obviously i am blinded, biased and awfully subjective (I admit) as opposed to other shippers 😀, but still i found it entretaining how everyone seem to bring up Spike/Spuffy in completely unrelated discussions, and in those he appears on are peppered up with everyone having a strong opinion on the subject. I may be wrong, but my impression is that he is mentioned the most here, Faith being a close second.

I ship Spangel and adore Wesley, but just liking Spike can sometimes be a death knell. I suspect it's old reflexes for some, but I have seen plenty of disparaging comments about Spike fans - thankfully they have been disappearing.
Spike is popular but also devisive in his own right, hard to say if he helped the franchise say alive.

And to say that he (and Angel) damaged the franchise is nonsense. The show evolved, changed - and survived.

I have never said that people follow just Buffy and Spike, I said that BtVS comics have more people discussing the issues than Angel & Faith, including other boards.

And I do. I can say the same to you: you know that there are other characters in the Buffyverse besides Faith, and you may find them interesting.

Not the show but certainly I could make a convincing case for the comics. The Twilight idiocy? The crappy and quite frankly offensive Buffy-bot pregnancy that used abortion as a plot-point?
These are story arcs that turned people away from the franchise permenantly. These are what people sight as damaging Buffy- the two vampires. Joss could've done anything, but he chose to re-run the tired Bangel then Spuffy back and forth. It's done and its boring.

You heavily implied it here:
The proof is exactly in the comics - almost 20 years of Buffyverse, and here we are discussing Buffy and Spike!

And saying that Buffy is popular and discussion worthy simply because of Buffy and Spike is nonsense. There's no drama there, and certainly no character consistency or equality.
Having said that there's barely been anything else to talk about since the 'Love Dares You' arc, now that they've gotten rid of the actually threatening bad guy.

I said that BtVS comics have more people discussing the issues than Angel & F

Then clearly we are looking at different comics boards. I see a 50/50 split and A&F getting lots of posititive reviews. Hell, they got so positive that Buffy poached the writer/artist combo for the Season 10 Buffy series. There's your proof.

I can say the same to you: you know that there are other characters in the Buffyverse besides Faith, and you may find them interesting.

Ha! Believe me I acknowledge the existence of other characters as well. I've even made entire threads about giving love to specific non-Faith shaped characters. I've even pointed to characters I actually dislike and made threads about them. I'm not the one with the bias problem here. 😉

Is that a fact? And "if" people are turned away from the franchise, perhaps even more new people liked these kind of plots...

That`s what many people was being waiting for!
I dont know how much this is going to last, because in this universe we know that not a single couple can get a happy ending but many people has been waitng for this more that ten years so.... it finally became! i hope that after so many seasons they at least allow us to enjoy them together the whole season.
I just would like that they let them being a normal couple just a couple of issues, instead of talking all the time about what could happen.
Part of me still have faith about this two beeing together at the end. Spike is the most popular character , even more that Buffy and as i see in the issues`s comments the people like the arc better when those two are there and nobody likes the humans boyfriends because they cannot be interesting enough for her.
So i cross my fingers!
