I have a question about the opening credits for season 7. Ok, on the "Created by Joss Whedon" part at the end of the credits, they use a shot of The First Evil posing as Buffy. Why didn't they use an actual shot of Buffy for that bit?

Sorry if it's a weird question it always bugged me

This has always annoyed the daylights out of me!!
Because it was unknown at the time what was The First Evil. Plus it's BUFFY the Vampire Slayer, why wouldn't they add images of her?

Because it wasn't really an image of Buffy. It was an image of The First.

Season Six used the Buffybot, while Season Seven used the First Evil. It was to show that Buffy wasn't really herself--was never the same--after being brought back from heaven. (That's what I read on IMDb, anyway. And I agree with it.)

Makes enough sense for me.

That's interesting, I didn't know that but it makes sense and it's a nice touch storytelling wise

Oh man, it's been bugging me forever.

What source did IMDb use? Can anyone edit?

And if that's the reasoning, it's not a good one, IMHO. Buffy was never the same after something horrible happened, after all.

Here's the excerpt straight from IMDb:

During seasons 6 and 7, the ones that took place on the UPN network, the
final shot of the opening credits shows Sarah Michelle Gellar, as in all
the previous seasons. The difference is that rather than those images being
that of Buffy, they were of facsimiles of the Buffy character. For the
majority of Season 6 the final image of the opening credits was of the
Buffy Bot shortly before Glory ripped its head off and Season 7's image was
of the First Evil, pretending to be Buffy while manipulating Spike. For
some fans this plays to the idea that Buffy was somehow not the same after
having been resurrected at the beginning of Season 6 through the end of the
series run.

So it was fan speculation...

I think many of the right reasons have been stated above already. I think when it comes to a television show, youre going to use your most clear and steady image of your actor/actress. There arnt too many stand alone scenes or shots of SMG like that one. Despite, its the first, its still Sarah Michelle Gellar, and its a nice smooth shot. Character alone, art is art =)
