How is the original scooby gang (Giles, Buffy, Will, Xander)'s friendship & relationship in S8? Have they've gotten closer since "Chosen"?

Buffy and Xander are very close. Buffy and Willow still have issues. Buffy and Giles aren't that close, in fact they don't meet in the same place until #26.

I think it's much more difficult to let characters get closer in a comic than in a film. And personally I had the feeling that the hole Scoobie Gang wasn't as close as they had been in the film.

I think that, basically, Season 8 finally depicts the fate of many such friendships, especially in high school or the military. Once the main thing that binds them together is either eliminated, overcome, or simply moved on from, the real world intrudes, the friends grow up, priorities change, and the "old gang" either fades away entirely, or at least partially, changes. Xander is still helping Buffy, but we see before too long that Buffy no longer sees Xander the same way that she did in Sunnydale. Dawn is a big girl now (no pun intended) with an adult relationship and adult complications to go along with it. Willow is off somewhere with Kennedy. Giles and Buffy, for some undisclosed reason, aren't on speaking terms. Each person now has their own life, and it is separate from the rest of the gang.

Do they still love each other? Absolutely. Are they still "there" for each other? Certainly. Will they still come together in time of crisis? Without a shadow of a doubt. But the old Scooby Gang probably died along with Sunnydale. "Scoobies: The Next Generation" may consist of the same people, plus a couple more, but their lives have, of necessity, changed, and I doubt that they would ever be able to be the same group that they in Sunnydale.

There's nothing bad about that. It's just what happens when you grow up.

I feel like they are starting to grow apart in Season 8, which is a shame to see. 🙁 You can tell by the lack of interaction between them that they are getting to a point in their lives where they don't talk as much and they are moving in different directions in their lives.

Didn't that already happen in season 7? I got the strong impression the only thing what held them together, or at least a little bit, was defeating the first, but that the growing apart was already taking place back then.

I stopped reading the comics halfway but form what I read myself and later heard by reading some things online, the comics continued where season 7 ended; the continuation of the destruction of the friendship 🙁
