Anyone else wonder what happened to the mean kids in the Pack?

Also, do you think Xander subconciously meant those things he said to Willow while he was under the possession of the hyenas?

Just watched the eppie and wanted to get others' takes on this...

I think he definitely meant them...it's like when people are drunk and their inhibitions are down...

Are you sure alcohol lowers inhibitions in that way? I mean, I've been extremely drunk before and my friends still can't get me to tell them certain things...
Plus, the two girls he wound up having relationships on the show were very strong women who were/seemed very sure of themselves, very unlike Willow...

It's hard to say.....

I think there was probably some truth to what he said....it's the same as when Angel turns into Angelus and says horrible things....I think it's thoughts that are deep down that he might not even know he had but they come out at that time.

Yah we never did see those kids again did we?

I agree that possession surfaces the subconscious thoughts or wants. He hit on Buffy and what he said to Willow had the characteristics of a flirt.

also like what Willow said to Dawn about her constant crying and Buffy about her wanting to be dead when she was evil

I agree.. There's something in what he says even though it's not really what he'd want when he's the real Xander..

This was btw one of the first Buffy episodes I remember seeing. I didn't understand much of it and didn't know the characters at all so I was all confused, and I didn't like BtVS then but it was interesting, remembering what I thought then I what I think now.. Ah well..

I think he was lashing out at Willow, wasn't being nasty and mean one of the hyena's traits? i don't think he really felt that way at all, but he knew her well enough to know what would hurt her the most.

I thought about what had hapened to the "bad" kids too, before and after this episode, i guess they were just characters to be used for that eppy and never to be seen again, there are charactors like that in every kind of show.

You said it perfectly, Salbates! hyena!Xander knew just how to hurt Willow, but Xander would never say things like that. He may have always thought those things to a lesser extent, but I sincerely doubt they were true.

I don't think they were actually his thoughts, but thoughts that the demon inside him gathered form Xander's real memories and observations of Willow. It's pretty simple - it's easy to see how someone who didn't know Will at all could say those things, to be deliberately hurtful, but I don't think Xander agreed with them at all, on any level.

I think maybe it's just thought's he'd had in the back of his mind. I think he did have those thoughts but he didnm't realise it. Also I don't think Xander would ever mean to hurt Willow like that so yeah.

As everyone said, it was most likely Xander's thoughts... deep down.
He finally had the guts to tell everyone off and so forth.

The bad kids... Hey, they're bad, maybe they ditched school and were eaten by vampires!

i think those thoughts were deep down inside him and in some way he did mean them just not in such a harsh way.its like what Kimm said, when Angel turns into Angelus he says things that he wouldnt have the guts to say when he's Angel because he doesnt want to hurt anyones feelings, but when he's Angelus he says what he thinks and in a meaner way, because he's evil.

Yeah, those thoughts were probably subconcious. He meant them alright, since if he was just doing things randomly as he was under possesion, why would he hit on Buffy? It was probably subconcious thought.

this is still about 'the pack' and i think its on topic, so im posting it here rather than starting a new thread:

in the eppy, when xander is fighting with buffy, he says:

XANDER: Do you know how long...I've waited...until you'd stop pretending that we aren't attracted? Until Willow...stops kidding herself...that I could settle with anyone but you?

does this mean that after that episode, or even before, he knew that willow liked him? he clearly didnt forget the events that occured while he was possessed, though he claims he does at first, so if he hadnt known before, wouldnt he remember having said that and know it afterward? and if so, why did he kind of act like he didnt realize it? and why did he ask for advice about asking buffy out and stuff so much? if he knew, it was kind of cruel of him to throw the fact that he liked buffy and not willow in her face like that. and also, whenever he was asking for the advice, as i mentioned, it seemed like he was oblivious to how much she liked him.

I hadn't thought of that before. Odd, and maybe a little inconsistent(?)

Yeah because he new what he had said after it happened (Although he denied it). And I think they left town after finding out what they did or something, I don't know.

It appears the 4 of them remained friends and Rhonda and Kyle even hooked up...I'm getting this from the Sunnydale High Yearbook. In the part under each of their pics they all mention each other and then at the back Kyle has wrote a comment to Rhonda about being Adam to her Eve 🙂

i think you have to look at it in different terms. haven't you ever had a friend who liked you but you didn't reciprocate the feelings? i'm sure you didn't want to hurt that friends feelings. xander loves willow, but he's not in love with her (that line is so lame, sorry. but it's true). he just acts aloof about it so he doesn't have to deal, kind of a stage of denial. this way no gets hurt and xander and willow are stillf riends, with xander still openly pining for buffy.

I would say you are partially right.
I would, though, be more inclined to say that people can be selfish, especially teenagers 'in love'. He possibly didn't care about Willows feelings for him because him being the center of his world could only focus on his love, that of Buffy.
He sought the help of Willow because she was Buffy's best girl friend.
When Xander then suggests he and Willow go and she says 'no', he realises what he has done and how it's been perceived.
He wants her there as his friend, though in a way to also try and make Buffy jealous. Willow wants something else from him that he won't give her.
