My other thread (Re: Doug Petrie and others) got me thinking about the writers of Buffy and Angel. I realized that while we frequently discuss our favorite episodes, actors and all manner of stuff I've never seen a thread about the writers... So, my question is, who is your favorite writer?

I think that Joss and Marti are obviously up there for me, Joss for all manner of reasons, and Marti because she's so good at capturing the drama and heartbreak present in life.

But my absolute favorite writer is Jane Espenson. Trying to think of why, all sorts of reasons, but nothing specific comes to mind. I just think that there's a cleverness and an honesty to the stuff she's penned. Also, I've never watched an episode of hers and thought that something wasn't right or that someone did something out of character.

I also really appreciate the work of Doug Petrie. I think that he has an amazing sense of humor. But also that it's a special humor, a Buffy humor.

So, which writer do you appreciate the most and why?

Tim Minear, awesome writer, can do the whole range of stories. Chances are, if you're watching an amazing Angel episode, Tim wrote it.

I think that my fave writers are Joss (of course) Marti Noxon and Jane Espenson. im not sure why but they are my fave writers.

I like Jane, some of her lines are classics, even though in commentaries she says she always get praised for lines in eps tht Joss wrote but anyhow, I always liked her humour

That is so true. There is something about Angel that TM just gets. Unlike David Fury (at least lately) who I actually heard called Hacky McHackinsack from Hacksville in response to Your Welcome. I didn't think it was quite that bad, but some of the characterizations were really off.

I'm also a fan of Jane Espenson simply because she makes me giggle. And I adored Superstar.
