How much do you pay? I thought this interesting...
on average women pay 40% more than men- which makes sense I guess, as I would imagine more often there is more to do.

When I don't do it myself I am priced around London.

It's free! I cut my hair myself (and yes I'm a girl, actually, long hair I find easier to cut than short hair).

But if I really have to go to a hairdresser, I go to a friend of mine, and it's about 20$

I'm UK based and 49$ is about 31£.

I go to a local, small independent place to get my hair cut most of the time. And it usually comes to about £15. If I'm getting my hair bleached (I have one large strand of hair that I get bleached every few months) I go to my mum's friend's hairdressing business and get that done for free. She offers to cut it too but my local place is much better at thinning and cutting so I'd rather pay.

O_O that is a lot of money! We have a few expensive places around here too, but overall I'd say the average is maybe 30$ for a cut. And I'm even too cheap to pay that.

I started cutting my hair in highschool when I wore it short, and it grew so fast I would have had to go in every 2-3 weeks to maintain it. So I just started doing it myself. Now that it's long maintenance is even easier!

Getting a friend to cut it is even better though! From my experience, friends and family usually do as good a job as the salon does.

I pay $15 for a haircut because the place that was charging me $12 didn't do a good job. I see the same thing as @Mr. Pole, women pay more for most things - dry cleaning comes to mind. In my area (Toronto) the price for dry cleaning is so ridiculously high that one of my colleagues used to save up his cleaning for when he travelled to Mesa AZ because he could get three suits cleaned and pressed for the price of a pair of pants here. Maybe some of the feminists on this forum should start a dry cleaning operation where there was no difference in price for men's and women's clothing.

My barber asks for about 15€ per (male) haircut, which is currently about 17$. And I always tip. He's a cool dude.
A friend of mine goes to a different barber and pays almost twice that money. I have no clue why that is.

It's really a matter of simple economics; one barber charges more than the other. What you really should be questioning is why your friend goes to a barber that charges more.
