Once we hit 18, allegedly we are adults. Sometimes it's awesome, sometimes it totally sucks. So, give us your pros and cons of being a grown-up. Here's a couple of mine:

Pros:

No curfew

Cons:

Having to pay rent

Being old enough to ask if you are old enough to ask that.
I don't think 18 really qualifies as a full-fledged adult personally. In a way adult responsibilities begin after high school (only just), but there is a psychological and spiritual maturation process that isn't finished until much later, something that only gets filled in after living life more, experimenting, falling down and getting back up, and just learning how the world works. What I am describing here is also the process of self-knowledge, which really has only just begun after high school too. There simply is no substitute for lots of time and experience. Personally, it wasn't until around 30 that I became self-consciously aware that I was a fully grown, mature adult, and that I couldn't really pass as a young person anymore.

Okay, so after saying that, I would say:

Pros: friendships and relationships are much more meaningful. In my experience, they gain more substance with time.

Cons: as the aging process continues, the feeling that one can no longer connect or relate to the popular cultural movements of younger generations, such as falling out of touch with and no longer being capable of locating easily new music trends and new underground music artists. For example.

Pros -
Living alone/choice of accommodations
Choice of social events rather than forced family functions
Experience of time/real life and the chance to choose what is going to work for me instead of following the school, uni, job, wedding, babies, motherhood, death routine.
Friends from the 90's/pre social media and super fast world pace. We are all as bewildered as each other. Some with children now (mini mes, tis funnier than I thought it would be to hear of my friends children being exactly like they were as children.)
Car/Driving. Ultimate freedom
Can leave the dishes until I am in the mood to do them.

Cons -
Budgeting
No real guidance or sense of support (although I can say that's has been the case since I was 12)
Slower metabolism, takes far, FAR more effort for to do the things I enjoy, and half the time I don't enjoy them anymore cos my back hurts too much lol
Don't look as sexy when dancing

This thread is perfect for me right now... I am fighting with myself over driving over 200kms specifically for a maccas pigout… but these days I would probably put myself in a diabetic coma if I did. Some days I just don't feel like cooking - usually 3 days in a row once a month and to eat in town makes that over $100 buck for food that isn't exactly cheeseburgers so it would actually be SAVING money if I drove to the coast and got bulk take away food.... A younger me would not even be having this internal discussion, I just would have done it. But now the related stiffness from driving, the fact I should get actual groceries while I am there and that I need to get fuel to get there (which means small talk with locals ugh, that is also what will happen if I go to the pub for a cooked meal) make it a decision I have to put thought into.

Its not as if I have NO food here, I just have no cheeseburgers.

Reaching adulthood meant something before the 1940's, it now means you can have kids. Not that you should though as it is ruddy painful, ruddy expensive, there are far to many people on the world. And dumb religions tell you to get married and have kids even though that will kill 90% of Gods creations. (people cause the burning of fossil fuels).
Then there is the most drastic possibility that your child may grow up to be like Donald Trump.

PS - When did Amber Bunny Slippers get so old as to ask questions of folk over 18 years old?

Thank God I am not religious :P
Luckily my religion supports my vocation 😀 Churches are the only place I don't have to explain myself about why I don't have nor want kids (so far).

Oh CON! Being able to see through the bullshit while those who remain blinded try to pull you back in with bullying tactics and attacks on self worth, questions of sanity and insults on intelligence for not playing the consumer game or watching every single word that spews onto the keyboard.. I am not sure that was such a problem before the tweeter. Social situations off line don't have the same risks of being taken out of context. It's just "buy another round" and give a chance to explain without the anxiety, picthforks and namecalling. Plus Beer. Yet, online takes far less money and energy, its more convenient, plus a better range of topics, so its definitely not an ALL bad playground.

Pros:

You get to specialize in training for the career you want rather than the menu of courses in high school.
You may get a job that offers actual responsibility and accomplishment.
The high school social order is no longer there and the Cordelias of the world fall by the wayside.
You get more freedom and more respect than you had earlier.

Cons:

You either go to work or go to school at your own expense.
You realize that you are going to reach your physical peak a few years after 18 then it's a long, slow slide into decrepitude.
You never feel older than when you turn 30. Astrologers say that is because Saturn has made one complete rotation and is back where it was when you are born. I say it's because you realize beer ads are subtly aimed at a younger audience than yourself.
You realize that a job has a hierarchy and psychopaths rise to the top in any hierarchy. It wasn't just school.

I agree about feeling old at 30. My back hurts now and people call me maam.

Come on Amber, we all know the advantage you liked of being under 18 - your juvie record is sealed.

Yes to that Ethan Reigns, but the question you should be asking is does Amber Bunny Slippers remember what it was like for her to be under 18?

You mean you suspect she has a record she has forgotten about?

I agree. Throughout my 20's I never felt like a "real" adult. But now that I'm in a serious relationship and getting close to my careers goals, I feel like I'm a real adult now. I'm making better decisions for my future.

Pros - there's a lot of pros to being an adult
I can make my own choices
Drinking alcohol, which I don't do much anymore but it's a nice way to unwind sometimes
Not waiting for your parents to give you money to buy things
You can choose where you live
Owning a car (that your parents didn't give you)
Staying out late (until you get too old and need to be in bed by 10pm lol)

Cons- there are several cons as well
Having to be financially responsible and pay your bills
Making all the phone calls to pay your bills, credit, or book appointments here and there
Waking up early for work (which is earlier than it was going to school)
Having to eat healthier because your body is slowly going downhill
Having to exercise more to be healthy
Realizing that your eyesight and hearing might be going (not happened to me yet, but it will)

Making phone calls is the worst!!!
PRO
Watching my choice of TV (although I still watch some utter crap)
All of the hot water is mine
Don't have to share everything
I can eat peanut butter with a spoon straight out of the jar

Con
No one to do the heavy lifting
Vacuuming

I agree on the 30 year old thing, my 30th birthday party was when I realised I SO did not want to live that fake life. It had some benefits but I certainly hated myself more and was a whole lot sicker than I am now. Problem now, is that I love my own company a bit too much and wont force myself into situations that I am expected to play the part.

Pros:
Candy/snacks for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Whenever you want. The world is your oyster.
Youthful naivité = dead

Con:
Responsibilities.
Youthful naivité = dead

Pro
Kids
Freedom from parents rules
Freedom to eat and drink whatever

Cons
Kids
Noone to pick up your mess
You have to control your own diet plan
Bills
Work
I could actually go on for ages lol

I must have had a privileged upbringing, when I was at school I had to be forced to go to church, and then I refused to pray or sing on the grounds of them doing religious persecution on me. Then I became a pagan and the God squad didn't want me to go to their church. My avoiding the family was never a concern as they left me.
Though I must admit watching the TV at 3am wasn't a problem, maybe if I had paid the electricity bill there might have been a program on the TV. I suppose I could have put a potted plant on the top of the TV, one of those Tomato plant look-a-likes; the Mar-I-Juana varieties.

PROS: The neighbours didn't knock on the door, or the walls.

CONS: Keeping the transport working so it would remain transport and not become metal statues (sculptures).

Con - house maintenance. But I guess some adults pay other adults to do this for them, so I am not sure if its an adult con or a povo con.

Pro
Learning how to reattach down pipes, seal leaks, install reticulation and basic car maintenance without having to pay anyone. I like the independent feelz.
More time to do less active activities, like gardening and cooking.
Less structure, dance to my own beat
