Ah, the casting pages for the second episode of "Angel's" fifth season (written, they say, by David Fury and Drew Goddard) turned up Tuesday!
What we learn:
* Spike's a dang ghost! Well"¦ A major character in the episode will refer to Spike as "a ghost -- close enough, anyhow." Cleavers pass right through Spike, as do doors and walls. He mocks Angel incessantly, and Angel has no means to escape the ghostly taunting!
* And check it out. Spike is somehow "stuck" to Angel! Another reason for blondie not to look up a key slayer pal!
* But don't worry, girls! Unlike Cordy's longtime roomie Dennis, Spike can be seen. Well, he kind of blurs in and out, and even disappears at times. Ghost-style. If you will.
* For the second time in two episodes, Angel will badly ruffle the feathers of his new Wolfram & Hart underlings.
* For the second time in two episodes, Angel will rankle a key Wolfram & Hart client. This week's disgruntled? One Magnus Hainsley. No relation to "West Wing's" hot red hot and blonde Republican Ainsley Hayes. One presumes.
* Hainsley, a telekinetic, runs what Angel terms a "body shop" and has uses for the recently deceased. He services an inhuman clientele. If you're thinking snacks? You'd be wrong. (Herc affixes a finger-and-thumb "L" to his forhead.)
* Hainsley stops short of dusting Angel, noting that the senior pardners still have plans for the series' title character.
* Angel pulls an "Eliot Ness" on Hainsley. Which Spike mocks as well.
* Hainsley hints that Spike's ghostly status could be temporary "“ if Spike teams with Hainsley against Angel.
* But it turns out the flesh Hainsley initially promises Spike won't look very Spike-like. But will nonetheless be very Buffy-boyfriend-like. IF you know what I mean.
* Spike intimates that he likes Winifred Burkle in a more-than-brotherly way!

the above is from aintitcool, the below is from spoilerslayer.com:

First, let's get the buzz of the boards out of the way. Spike is back and he's incorporeal. So apparently they've decided to go with 'Ghost-Spike' for the time being. Spike is not entirely happy about his return to the mortal coil, but is extremely happy to be annoying Angel. Just to be clear, Spike specifically references the fact that he was brought back against his will. The gist of the episode is that Angel discovers that one of Wolfram and Hart's clients has been using the firm to acquire the bodies of the recently deceased. The client is a necromancer, Hainsley, who charges demons a fee to put their essence into the human vessel.

After Hainsley kills the first messenger to pass along the news that Wolfram and Hart will no longer be his supplier, Angel goes to confront him. Spike decides to tag along, more to annoy Angel than any real desire to help. The discover that Hainsley has a showroom of dead people, from which the various demons can take their pick. When they arrive, Hainsley is with a client, and he asks his manservant to kill them. After a brief fight, Angel takes out the manservant and then gets into an argument with Spike. Angel seems to be quiet bothered by the fact that it took him nearly 100 years to deal with the guilt and remorse for all the things Angelus did, while Spike only needed a few weeks in a basement. During this argument, Spike starts to fade out and then vanishes.

Angel proceeds to take out Hainsley, only to discover that as a necromancer, Hainsley can control any non-living being. Which means that Angel can't touch him, however he doesn't want to kill Angel because Wolfram and Hart has big plans for him. Angel decides to let the firm take action, freezing his assets and having the IRS get in on the action. Not to be outdone, the necromancer decides to use Spike. He offers Spike a chance to not only get his body back, but to take Angel out at the same time. Which Spike seemingly is more than happy to do.

Not to fear, Spike has not gone evil over the summer. When Hainsley attempts to transfer Spike's essence into Angel's body later in the episode, Spike takes over Hainsley instead. This allows Angel to physically attack him, and Angel quickly dispatches Hainsley. This doesn't keep Spike from reanimating the corpse and getting in a few good swings at Angel's expense, until Angel makes sure that Hainsley's body will stay dead by decapitating him (looks to be a very amusing scene, with the head of Ghost-Spike sticking from the neck of Hainsley's body.

That's because you're a Spuffy---i am not 😀
Though I do like Spike. personally i think it's great for the story-an interesting and new idea to spruce things up a tad 🙂

i think it would be classic joss....but i cant see that spike wouldnt end up helping angel and possibly later a human as he is a main character but it is a very good way of getting him on the show but not as a compeeting vampire🙂

Well I like it, its a good way to bring him back but it all depends on how they do it, but they will probably have to do alot of computer graphics or green screen if they want to make him transparent or whatever the whole time and Joss basically already said that Buffy and Spike wont get back together and be all in love

So glad to see Drew Goddard enter the fray early. He was my favourite Buffy writer. I just know he's going to kick on Angel.

Plus: Fury and Goddard together. There has to be some funny bits.

Have to agree. I don't want this becoming the "Spike's the Cool Guy" show. i would like Angel to have his own fair share of zingers! 😀

Well, I can't say I like the idea but I will wait and see what they do with it. It sucks about the Buffy and Spike thing if it's true but even if there weren't a Buffy and Spike ever I still don't think she should be with Angel. They just don't fit right. It would be pretty lame. Especially since he was just about to profess his love to Cordy.

Not sure what I think about all this, personally I think it would be out of Spike's character to go against Angel at this point even though we know he think's Angel is a "Wanker".

Not sure I dig this whole "ghost" thing, but we'll see how it plays out.

I think it will be good...Spike as a ghost and Angel cant like get rid of him by hitting him or ought so he can just keep annoyin Angel and whys Spikes annoyin hes v.funny at it...cant wait... 😀
