upon decing to do a "knock off" episode, come up with a BETTER script.

The Ring was just plain AWFUL, definitely makes my all time worst list.

I really liked this episode and seeing as Buffy and Angel is littered with 'ripped off' stories, I don't see this one as a problem.

In fact there have been MANY stories based on a similar premise to 'The Ring' that predate Fight Club.

I rememeber watching one such story in Baywatch when I was a teenager.

I dont think its a rip off of Fight Club at all. Its more a Gladiator reference. Fight Club members didnt fight against their will and have to kill each other.

And everything is a rip off of everything else. Theres no new ideas in media, just recycled ones. Movies like Star Wars or Kill Bill or anything else is just ideas from dozens of other movies. You cant fault writers for taking inspiration from other things.

And ever since the remake of Psyco originality for horror films has officially died in Hollywood.

Pretty much, fighters weren't prisoners in Fight Club. I thought it was a pretty good episode. Another Wesley great:

No, but several others of the same general plot made before "Fight Club" were, primarily one called "Ring Of Steel," as well as any of the old gladiator movies all the way back to even before "talkies," plus lord only knows how many books of just about every genre. As it's been pointed out here and in several other threads, there's nothing new and original anymore. They just change samurai to cowboys to space jockeys to nurses to Navy Seals to... name a group, and seven of them have been "magnificent" somewhere. The same thing goes with gladiators of some form or other fighting for the pleasure of some crowd somewhere.

Nothing new, nothing original.

Overall I liked this episode. I loved at the end when Angel and the gang realized that they let out a bunch of demons 😀 so funny. Didn't really bother me that the idea of the episode wasn't original.
