The Rings a Person Wears

(A rhetorical question)
Who names the rings people wear?
Where the ring is worn often is what the ring becomes known as, why?
When you are given the names such as a Nose ring, a nipple ring or a belly button ring
yet when you get married the ring that is put on your finger is not known as that, why?
I have my own idea but as some folk here have dirty minds (ABS, Spanky) I won't.
I mentioned those two out of respect for them as they are both in the wonderful house
of Black Thorn and as such one should expect such a memorable behaviour.

A wedding ring is worn on the fourth finger of the left hand supposedly because there is a blood vessel that runs directly to the heart.

And my engineering ring is worn on the little finger of the working hand, consistent with the Kipling ceremony. Rudyard Kipling was a great proponent of engineering and started a ceremony for engineers at graduation but only for engineers graduating in Canada. The iron engineering ring was originally made from the centre section of the Quebec bridge (which was found at the bottom of the Ottawa River) and serves as a reminder to check your decimal places, among other things.
