Is there any indication as to just when the proposed "Ripper" movie will be in relation to the series time line? If it's going to be canon, about the only place that I can see it happening is in the time between the end of Season 7 and his first appearance in Season 8.

but isn't Andrew supposed to be in it? how can it be set in S6 if the nerd's there?

as for cannon, if Joss is gonna be involved, and ASH is definitely in, how can it be anything but?

I didn't know Andrew was in it.

I have a hectic life now, I don't have the ability to know all the geek stuff anymore.

I was at a ball last night and I had to show Boris Johnson(wikipedia him) around!!!

If Andrew's meant to be in it maybe it's a mix of post-season 7 and mid-season 6. Andrew might end up telling the story of what Giles was doing in England in season 6, in the same way he told all the stories in Storyteller. Yeah the movie could begin with Andrew in the middle of a Masterpiece Theater-esque setting going 'Hello there gentle viewers....'

Personally I think it has potential, hehe

I don't get how it can be the "Ripper" movie if Giles is Giles and not 'Ripper'. (at least I understood that sentence). And I don't think Giles ever really returned to his dark roots and especially not after Andrew was introduced into BtVS.

I think what you will find then, if Andrew is in it that it is when Andrew is a trainee Watcher and like Slayer Comma The suggested he'll be telling a story.

The REASON it is called Ripper is because EITHER the story will be set when Giles WAS Ripper or it will be a tale of Giles investigating his past.

Either way, the title makes absolute sense.

Problem is, how likely is this to be made with Dollhouse getting the go ahead?

I've been asking myself the same thing. It was almost too good to be true when he announced it at comic-con last year. There were already so many projects he was sort of working on, before Dollhouse even entered the picture. I do hope that this still happens, but I'm starting to think maybe it won't after all.

What I read is the events were set during season six and something like Andrew was commentating it or something, like another one of his stories.

According to an interview with Joss Whedon in a sci-fi magazine it hasnt a realease date but he says he is definatly going to do it at somepoint. Its after season 7 Giles moves back to England and gets depressed because hes now useless and misses the gang.

Anthony Head said that before the Writers Strike happened and before Joss was doing Dollhouse, Ripper was a sure thing, but now, we have to wait and see D=

He also said it's a ghost story and that it might not even be connected to Buffy at all =/

Nah It definatly connected to Buffy.

I love the idea of a Giles movie. And having it set after Tabula Rasa would be the most fitting and most amazing idea.

BUT

I actually don't want to see the movie.
I mean, it would be nice if they were already doing it, but I think Joss has all but tired out the canon Buffy/Angel verse.
What with the comics and all.

I want him to do something equally awesome but unrelated to Buffy.
Give him a chance to spread his wings and show us what else he can make us fall in love with.

BUT

If its definately going to happen, then I'm all for it.
I just wish he'd leave the Buffy/Angel verse alone.
It has to be tiring to write about the same thing for years on end.

It's not tiring writing abou the same thing for years IF you enjoy doing it. If it's something you truly love then you don't get fed up. I mean he even said himself in an interview recently that no matter what he always finds himself drifting back to the Buffyverse and that he'll be working on something else and in his head he'll come up with something and go 'That'd work great on Buffy', but then he's like 'But the show's over now...darn'. Hehe.

And because it is such a well-written world there are always options to go back because there's so many stories to tell y'know? And if it's a Giles' story they pick then I sure ain't gonna complain 😉 hehe
