The Royal Wedding

I'm American. I woke up at 3:40am to watch the wedding because we don't have this here (though I did watch Obama's inauguration which was pretty sweet). Anything that's huge and historical, I will watch.

I really felt genuine emotion watching this though. My heart sped up and I thought it was adorable when William and Harry were talking and when William told Kate she looked beautiful. It's better than anything I could imagine and I just, I kind of want that for myself. The wedding, not the media scrutiny.

Aw, I'm sure you will have it!
I haven't watched it but you really couldn't avoid it, it was EVERYWHERE, so I've probably seen the not boring parts. xD I think it was live on at least six channels in Germany. We don't even have anything to do with it! My mom watched it, though. Which was extremely funny because we made fun of it just yesterday. Then she came home from work early, claiming she had a headache, but got straight in front of the TV and whenever I entered the room, quickly changed channels to Star Trek reruns. XD

General question, is the Queen the monarch of the Commonwealth? Like is our Queen Germany and Switzerland's Queen?

LOL! at Commonwealth Germany.
General question, is the Queen the monarch of the Commonwealth? Like is our Queen Germany and Switzerland's Queen?

Queen Elizabeth is the Monarch (constitutional Monarch) of the Commonwealth Realms, 16 independent sovereign states:

UK
Canada
Australia
New Zealand
Jamaica
Barbados
the Bahamas
Grenada
Papua New Guinea
the Solomon Islands
Tuvalu
Saint Lucia
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Belize
Antigua and Barbuda
Saint Kitts and Nevis

She is the Figure Head of the 54 Commonwealth Nations.

I did know that, but I had to go look it up to make sure, lol.

Ah, thank you very much! I'm so stupid haha, I thought most of Europe was in the Commonwealth. Probably thinking of Eurovision :p which won't make anyone think I'm less stupid haha
I did not even know about it untill yesterday, and I had no idea why all of my friends were excited for it. They said, "It is a happy ending to a sad story." I have no idea what this sad story they are talking about is.

I think they probably mean the death of Prince William's mother, Diana, who was killed in a car crash in Paris almost 15 years ago. There's been a lot of speculation about her death, which is still going on today.

And if they don't, then I don't know any other 'sad story' that could be related to Prince William or Princess Cathrine.

And, I just found this out, but one of the titles William and Cathrine received from the Queen after their wedding was Baron and Baroness Carrickfergus. Carrickfergus, or Carrick as we call it, is a TINY little town in Northern Ireland, that is a favorite spot for me and my friends to visit on a night out. So we thought that was hilarious, lol.

I didn't watch it, but I did see some hiliarious photos of Prince Harry. I also found it hilarious that PILF was trending on twitter. XD

I watched all of it, loved it. Kate and William looked so happy, I loved when he drove her out of the palace. Harry has really gotten very handsome!

My friend DVR'd it and we fast forwarded through all the boring parts, lol. They did look very happy and I'm happy for them, even if I'm not very invested in their story and I think the media attention is way over the top. Kate was gorgeous!

I loved it. I loved how the unelected billionaires got married and the state paid for it. They truely deserve their unearned millions. AND it was a great dress Kate wore. All hail the future king.

I also counted six. Yesterday there were summaries on at least four ones. I guess it is a kind of compensation for many here in Germany, not because we don't have nobilities in Germany, but because we do not have real nobilities in Germany. Other royal marriages in Europe do also have viewer levels in here.

I remember seeing the Princess of Saxony on a tv show once.
I think this picture pretty much sums it up for me... 😀

Are you referring to the financial impact the additional bank holiday supposedly had on the economy or the expenses spent on extra security for the day? I haven't seen any final figures, but wouldn't the extra revenues from the tourism industry and merchandise make up for that?

I daresay the British public would have run riot if they'd decided to elope, lol.

No. Im referring to the fact they get their money from tax payers. They are un elected.
Apparently one of the flower girls is from Limerick! Well colour me stunned.

Really? Where did you hear that? Because they were all English members of the royal family AFAIK.

Yeah, I'm starting to think it was just a rumour started for the craic. A few customers said it to me yesterday in work but I googled the 4 bridesmaids and they are all based in England.
