Not even a little. This affirms my belief that rock and roll is dead and buried in the spot where CBGB's used to be.
issues with this are:
1. The actresses. Stewart and Fanning CAN'T act. They are no good. popular (well stewart more obviously) sure. But that doesn't make a good actor.
2. From what i've read this 'biopic' is something along the lines of 'female band trying to make it in a mans world'
Which ok.... is true except it wasn't! I've read extensively about the whole punk rock scenes roots (as i love punk etc. 😛) and joan jett was kicking around right around the time when the ramones etc. were doing their thing.
So yes while, in the 70's it (being music industry) was still a 'mans world' the punk/rock n roll scene was NOT. It was all about 'hey you DON'T sound like the beatles or whatever other crap is being played on the radio. get on stage and do your thing.'
you had Joan Jett, you had blondie, you had the plasmatics (well that's getting into the 80's but still). ALL female fronted, all indepedant women.
So... you wanna see this movie fine. waste your $12. but for those of you who are intersted in MORE than seeing Bella dance around on stage while lip synching into a mic, please use those $12 and buy a book about the whole era in the 70's/80's of the underground music scene and you might learn something interseting and more importantly truthful.
