Simple question. Which of these two places do you think was the better location for the Scobbies to get together to discuss plans?

I think the Magic shop worked quite well and led to some nice tie-in storylines with Anya and Giles and did give Giles a bit more of a purpose again. But it is still the library for me. Loved the look of it and just how intimate it was, and the running gag that the students hardly used it so the Scoobies were free to discuss anything in there was one I always enjoyed😛

I do prefer the library but it didn't make the most sense. Giles always just happened to be there in the middle of the night which was weird, and the Scoobies could just walk in even when school was closed. Like, did schools not have security systems in the 90s?

I know but I think that was part of the whole gag that they could just be there whenever they wanted because no one in the school cared about the library including the many of the teachers. It also plays nicely on the theme of Giles being a loner who confines himself to dark rooms. The magic box saw a nice for the Giles character.

Yea i like the library too. It had a better atmosphere imo. If i want to get news there's an apocalypse then i wanna hear it in the library. Makes it sound more threatening since the hellmouth was in the Centre of it. I did like Giles getting the MagicBox it gave him and Anya something to do.

I really missed the library after season 3. It had kind of a classic feel to it. I liked the Magic Box, but it resembled some of the more darker seasons.

I love both places, both just worked so well in the verse. The library wouldn't have worked post s3, and the magic box box wouldn't have worked during the school seasons, and I think it's great that they were able to build those two places that just feel super iconic in the Buffy verse. The Magic box had tough shoes to fill in, and I think it worked out great. But overall I do think I prefer the library. It just had so much charm, and as mentionned it was hilarious that it was situated in the school but we never even saw another student go there. Like for god sake they used to keep a naked Oz in there!

I love how Giles basically was the boss of both places though! And then in s4 they hang out as his place. It's nice that they kept hanging out where ever Giles was. S7 didn't have that feeling because most of the season was at the Summer's house, and I do think it somewhat hurt the show.

I agree about s7, the house was not the same.
Library for me, although the Magic Box is the second best location- never much liked Giles' or Buffy's places as Scooby HQ because the whole thing just felt really intrusive.

Agreed. I just like the idea of them getting together in a public place with a bit more character to it, but where you can also have tie in stories.

I guess I'll have to stand alone on this one. It always seemed just out of place to me that a high school library could be used as the place to store all those books on magic and supernatural lore, and storing all those weapons on campus when just carrying a pocket knife would get you expelled and quite likely arrested.

The Magic Box was the perfect meeting place, with a valid reason for all of the research material and weaponry that Buffy and the Scoobies could ever need, and, I assume, with all of them having keys to the place, there would never be a time when those things were unavailable or the gang's presence would be in question.

You make a good point about the library except that maybe if people outside of Giles and Scoobies hardly go there and Giles owns it then it is possible than no one would notice. Also I think it is part of the whole Sunnydale vibe that people there seem to accept that it is a weird town and so maybe would'nt be suprised to see books on witches and the like.

Library. Much nostalgia for the high school years, but also because that's where the Hellmouth opened.
I liked the Magic Box, it was a good addition and meet up spot.

Wasn't keen on Giles or Buffy's house being the main meeting places. They both got far too crowded.

I liked the library also. I also found the magic shop very cozy too, but with the added benefit of having magic ingredients and the like on hand right when needed.

I'd say the atmosphere was in favor of the magic shop. I don't have sentimental feelings about school libraries (or libraries in general). I don't spend a lot of time in them; just in and out, take my books home and leave. The sunnydale high library was kind of boring looking to me. The magic shop was more attractive. The library was right on the hellmouth, which added to the vibe though.

The choice also boils down to the people and the memories though. I have many more fond memories associated with the library over the magic shop, that's for sure. Hands down the library whens on the point of fond memories. But people make a place likable as much as the memories and atmosphere. As far as the people, I like Dawn far, far more than Oz, but Cordy (on Buffy) tips the balance again in favor of the library (over Anya). Dawn is my favorite of those four, but Cordy (on Buffy) and Oz are 2nd and 3rd of that group to me with Anya in the dust and out of view in last place. Then again, Spike...hmm.

Overall, I choose the library.
