The Scoobies or Angel Investigations. Who's better?

Who had the best gang out of Buffy and Angel?
Did you prefer the Scoobies, or the AI team?
Heres my results.

The Watchers: Giles v Wesley. This is probably the toughest choice to make. I did like Wes alot, and he had maybe the best Ats arc, but Giles, he's just one of the legend characters.
He played his role to perfection, and definetly Buffys best ever sidekick. Winner: Giles

The Brains: Willow v Fred. This ones much easier to choose. Its easily Willow. But i think i like Willow more because she dated amazing characters like Oz and Tara rather than actually liking her for her. Winner. Willow

The Fighters: Xander v Gunn. I think both these characters are similar in that they both started of great, but in the last few seasons of each show their characters got neglected and alot less interesting. So im judging them on their early seasons and i feel kinda bad for snubbing the X man like this but Winner: Gunn

The Hotties: Cordy v Anya. I didnt exactly Like Cordy on Buffy, but they def needed a character like her and CC played her well, liked her alot more in Angel 1& 2 but ins3& 4 to me, he character became so dull i actually started to dislike her.
Anya on the other hand was just great almost everytime she was on screen, probably my favorite relationship on both shows was xanders with Anya too. Winner: Anya

The Whining Teens: Dawn v Connor. I'll keep this simple.
Dawn had an excellent arc in s5. Connors face annoyed me.
Winner: Dawn

So 5 battles, and for me Buffys got the better crew by 4-1(yea, go gunn) It may have been different if i was judging on usefulness, but i was voting by popularness. :mobile_ph:asl:

The Watchers: Giles v Wesley. I love Giles. A lot. As the OP said, he is a legend character. Then I think of Wesley, and how he had the most incredible character development (across both shows actually - when you stop to compare Wes in "Bad Girls" to Wes in Angel Season 5, the difference is pretty incredible). Winner: Draw (is that allowed?)

The Brains: Willow v Fred. I'm going for Willow too. Winner. Willow

The Fighters: Mmm, I don't really class Xander as a fighter, I'd class him as the "heart", as did Dawn, so...

The Heart: Xander vs Cordy. This is tough, cos both played a huge role in keeping the Scoobies and the AI together. Xander had a couple of slips though ("kick his ass"?). In the end, I have to choose Cordy, because of the great changes her character went though, and the number of times she "kept her man on track". Winner: Cordy


The Whining Teens: Dawn v Connor. I HATE Conner. I've said it before, but once he came back as a teenage it was the beginning of the end of AtS. I know he had a hard time, but seriously, get over it and stop ruining my show! Winner: Connor (as in he was the most whiney)

Let's see here...

The Watchers: Giles vs. Wesley...a tough choice. Both Giles and Wesley are amazing characters and I absolutely adore them both, but I'm going to have to go with Giles on this one because in the end because he's just a brilliant character and his father-daughter relationship with Buffy is heartwarming. Winner: Giles

The Brain: Willow vs. Fred. They're my two favorite characters from their respective shows, but for me, the winner is obvious. No Buffyverse character can hope to surpass Willow in my mind. Plus, although Fred brings a lot to Team Angel, the whole uber-witch thing makes Willow more useful than her. Winner: Willow

The Human: Xander vs. Gunn. Another no brainer. Though Gunn is a much better fighter and is certainly more useful to his team, Angel Investigations would still be the same team without him. On the other hand, I couldn't imagine the Scoobs without Xander. Winner: Xander

The Bitca: Anya vs. Cordelia. Next to Giles vs. Wesley, this is the toughest one for me to choose. Cordelia starts out as the stereotypical bitchy girl and winds up becoming a hero and a staple of her team, and her relationship with Angel becomes one of the best romances that never truly happened. Anya offers some of the best comic relief in Buffy, is great almost every time she's onscreen, and acts as half of one of the best romances that actually DID happen. Both great characters, but in the end, I went with Anya just because she's so damn funny. Winner: Anya

The Whining Teen: Depends...are we talking about which one is whinier or which one is a better character? If we're talking about the latter, which is what I assume Lee meant, I'm definitely gonna go with Dawn. Although she did have her fair share of whining, Connor definitely had her beat; plus, she was actually pretty good in season 7. If we'd seen more of Connor in season 5 of Angel, I might have gone with him, just because he was great in that season, but alas, he was only in two episodes. Winner: Dawn

And, since no one's posted this category yet:

The Hero: Buffy vs. Angel. Oh, do I even have to discuss this? Buffy, no doubt about it! She's an iconic character, and, even though I absolutely hated some of her actions, overall, she was a much more likable lead than broody Angel. Winner: Buffy

Overall: The Scoobies by a landslide; I gave them all of my votes, haha. Then again, that was expected. As I've said before, the main reason why I like Buffy more than Angel is because the characters on Buffy are much closer to my heart.

The Bitcas: Cordy vs. Anya. I really like Cordy on Angel... a lot. And, no, I don't really have a reason. I just do. I think Cordy gets the win because Anya might've been a main character, but she just seemed like 'Xander's Boyfriend'. Unlike Tara and Spike which seemed like characters that really contributed to the show. I also can't stand Anya on S7. However, in Anya's defense, she is hilarious. Winner: Cordy

The Whining Teens: Dawn vs. Connor. I actually really enjoy Connor because I can relate to what he's thinking, and his actions. Of course, I don't wanna kill people, but I think you know what I mean. Dawn was cool though.

Overall Winner: Scoobies vs. Angel Investigations. I love the Scoobies to death, and they, to me, obviously win. However, I absolutely love the team "aspect" of S1. (Angel, Cordy, Doyle/Wes) To tell you the truth, after watching S1, I have to say (besides Connor) I like the 3 person AI better than the 7 person. Winner: The Scoobies

Im with you on this one. imo, the 3 piece AI team with Gunn and Lorne on the side as allies but not members was spot on, amazing.

Yeah, I loved the very beginning of S2 when they all get the "911" calls, and go to that weight room thing. Epic.

I would NEVER consider Connor as a member of the AI team. The team is: Angel, Cordy, Wesley, Gunn, and Fred. The scooby team would be Buffy, Giles, Willow, Xander, Anya, and Dawn. I can't really make one team be better than the other because they are both different teams. And they are in different situations.

Wait a minute, Xander the fighter of Buffy? No way! Come on, compare him to Gunn, did he ever fight like this. No. Which was kind of the point of his in the end. Being the guy that doesn't have superpowers, ergo also can't deal with vampires etc. as good as the others (and I do realize Gunn doesn't have superpowers, but he just has this way with vamps and demons out of a lot experience).

And the choice is really a tough one. Mainly because the characters that are versus (like Cordy and Anya) are for me on the same level, mostly. This is hard to explain, but for example I like both Anya and Cordy, and I don't care that much for both Gunn and Xander. In the end I might go for Angel Investigations, but just because Cordy is my favourite character.

It's difficult because each of them have unique niche and fit into their respective groups in their own way.

Ok if we look at each of them and their roles we can see how they served our main heroes in different ways.

Wes vs Giles: This is interesting because Giles was a better watcher but overall Wes seemed more knowledgable. Giles' esoteric knowledge was barely above that of Angel's wheareas Wesely knowledge of languanges and demonology made him an asset to the group. Wes is my favourite character but both contributed to the group in different ways.

Willow vs Fred: While Willow was an incredibly powerful witch, Fred's scientific knowledge was virtually incomparable. Willow was certainly great at science but I doubt she studied in depth as Fred who also tried her hand and researching mysticism in conjunction with science. They are both highly intelligent but simply focused on different areas of study, I would say one is simply better than the other.

The rest...

Well AI and the Scoobies can be compared in different ways. The heart can be both Cordy and Xander who can be compared to Gunn in terms of being the one who doesn't feel like perhaps they bring enough to group. The avaricous Anya can be compared to Cordy etc. I think it's unfair to classify them in such a generalised way which would deny them of the uniqueness of their arcs and journey's.

I feel it's more apt to describe the groups as wholes. One point about The Scoobies is that they were more or less unofficial as a group. Boyfriends and girlfriends would join and leave as they split up. AI did have a period where they split but for the most part, whether they split up as lovers etc, they were still an official team.

Buffy doesn't charge people for saving them but Angel sometimes did. Both served a particular role to public. While Buffy didn't charge, she didn't get involved in in people's life that often and while the scoobies lives were dedicated to the mission, they had other lives, jobs. I I think I prefered the mission statements of Angel. It centred around his fighting philosophies and while he was riddled with moral ambiguity the conscious fact that he often consciously tried to do right, not just for rights sake but often exploring specific ideologies influencing Gunn to see and believe in Angel's mission beyond going out and slaying the big ugly, Wesley to explore his own issues with redemption and Cordy to help the helpless, even when the helpless one was Angel himself.

I may talk about the Scoobies at a late stage, but gtg.

I don't really see Gunn as the Angel equivalent of Xander. Gunn is more equivalent to Spike (smart mouthed second to the lead fighter).

I actually see Lorne or Doyle as the Angel equivalent of Xander, especially Doyle (yes I know he didn't stick around long), but he was sweet, funny, and self depreciating like Xander.

Either way the Scoobies win (although thankfully we get to have both).

Thats exactly why I prefer A.I. xD
A think the Scoobies are too calm, and together and for me, kinda boring.

But de A.I. theres always someone evil trying to kill their friends, people been, well, just people, changing minds, couples, behaviors and all.

Lets make one thing perfectly clear. As long as it´s Scoobies vs. Angel Invstigations as a whole it´s nothing to discussone on my part. Scoobies all the way. One can say I´m with CF on that one. Well, I´m usually on her side so that´s not surprising. But I wanted to do it a more interesting so I´m going for the best team possible to stop the evil in the world. Hopefully the characters can get along. 😉


The Hero: Buffy vs. Angel. Even though Angel has grown more than Buffy since the show (Buffy) started it´s not a contest. Buffy all the way. If for nothing else, I´ve always been a sucker for girlpower.

Winner: Scoobies


The Watchers: Giles vs Wesley. I love Giles and I actually think this one breaks my heart the most even though there are some more difficult choices to come, but I´m gonna go with Wesley. The long road he´s been taking to get there he is today makes him my choice. At least as it´s the Wesley from the beginning of Angel S. 5. Yes, I´m picky. And he is the better fighter even if Giles has improved in that area too.

Winner: Angel Investigations


The Brains: Willow vs Fred. Brainwise there might not be so much difference and Fred definitely has an edge in some areas. But Willow is a serious wicca and a computerwiz so it´s really no contest.

Winner. Scoobies


The Human: Xander vs. Gunn. I love Xander, I can tolerate Gunn. But the thing that actully makes the choice easy is the “The whining teen category”. Xander is the glue, not to mention the carpenter (should save us a LOT of money) and Gunn is the fighter. We´re not gonna run a lawfirm so the lawyer I have not that much need for.

Winner: Scoobies


The Bitca: Anya vs. Cordelia. Love Anya, like Cordy AI-style. Still, I have to side with Buffy and ask what Anya really brings to the team. We do have Xander for the comic relief even though Cordy definitely can add some of that too. And the visions can come in pretty handy.

Winner: Angel Investigations


The Whining Teens: Dawn v Connor. Connor since he´s useful in a fight. And that way I don´t have to include Gunn as the fighter.

Winner: Angel Investigations




Overall: Scoobies - Angel Investigation: 3 – 3

So I guess that means a tiebreaker.

The others Tara or Spike (madly in love with Buffy-style) or Andrew vs. Doyle or Lorne or Spike (s.5 style)

Lorne would be useful to have, no doubt about that. And Spike is always Spike and it would be fun to include him. I guess I support the s.5 Spike in this case but still none of them gets my vote. We really want Willow in a good mood so Tara it is.

Winner: Scoobies


So after a real hard fight the Scoobies are the winners. I´m not complaining as seen at the top.

The watchers : Wes vs Giles - Anyone who knows mr knows the answer to this question - apart from that 1 episode Giles seems like a pretty pure, good, sacrificing character - Wes is pretty much all over the place, hes good in the beginning then he stole angels kid and had that chick in his wardrobe - I mean, i was watching season 2 with my friend and then we watched smile Time and she says to me "whos that" so, for how much he changed wes, hate the turtle necks though

If we are talking about who is better at saving the world from an apocalypse, I will definitely go with the Scoobies. If we are talking about who has a great team dynamic, that is much more about working together to solve a problem, I will go with AI.

I love Buffy, but she was a dictator. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the time it was Angel's way or the highway, but he also realized when he needed to let Wes lead. And if we go by epic final stands, the Angel team knows how to pull it together. Angel's finale felt more like a heist before the big battle, while Buffy's felt like the big battle itself.

Also, you can't include Spike because he was a member of both! (Cordy was never a Scooby in my book)
