If BTVS had run for another season or more, do you think Spike and/or Anya would have been killed anyway or that Sunnydale would have been destroyed?

No if there was going to be an eight season Johnathon or principal man would have died in Anya's place. Spike would have died but came back in Angel. I feel this way because the way they have treated those characters in the current Season 8. By barely using them at all. They are un needed. While If a season 8 had happened directly after Season 7 and he knew about it, that he would have written it so the core group would have stayed in tact and allowing for some of the things he couldn't show in season 7 to be shown in season 8. The end of the seventh season felt rushed a tiny bit. I think with more time (another season) he would have held off on some things. That I only believe because I love Anya am fully Biased, and want her back.

Emma Caulfield wanted out of BtVS, so I think she would have died regardless. Spike on the other hand I'm not too sure of. He probably would have died because wasn't he the reason Angel got picked up for a 5th season? As far as Sunnydale being destroyed, I don't think it would have happened because how can there be BtVS without Sunnydale. No Sunnydale works in the comics but I don't know if it would work on a TV show.

Beat me to it about the anya thing
I agree with VG; I think the current S8 is too big for a TV show. Too many locations and stuff. Plus the flying. And the gargoyles . . . yep, too big for a TV show.

Not a movie, though.

Why then was she surprised when she was killed off.

I've heard her say she was shocked. That she didn't see it coming. I've heard her say it on a radio show she did. I didn't read it somewhere.

She may have been surprised that Anya died becuase she didn't know how the show was going to end but she had already decided that season 7 was going to be her last year on BTVS long before the finale. Maybe like most people she thuoght Andrew would be the one to get it not Anya.

If she was indeed surprised... (I'm not sure if she was, because I never heard of this) it might have just been because nobody wants to 'die'. She was probably just shocked that the end of Anya was a killing instead of a 'screw you guys I'm leaving' type of thing.

But Emma did in fact want to leave. I do remember that.

So do I, I knew she wanted to leave before I knew season 7 was going to be the last season on TV.

i thought id read emma caulfield was suprised at the way anya was killed off, but she did want out of the show.

You get karma just for having met James Marsters, you lucky thing, you.
i think she was surprised at the way Anya was killed, because it was so quick and no one really paid attention, but i do remember hearing that Emma wanted to leave, whether S7 was the last season or not.

That's exactly why there's those sort of things in Season 8, because it is a comic. There's no limits with budget and effects

The only way a season eight outside of Sunnydale would have worked would be if this show had a much, much larger budget. Why did Emma Caulfield want out? Did she not like the show, or did she simply want to do other things?

Well I don't know about Anya but not Spike. He would have been kept around and so would sunnydale have been.
