*****This has got to be a spoiler for After The Fall, because, though the Shanshu Prophecy has been around since Season 1, certain details didn't come out until Angel sent LA to hell*******

Okay, agents of the Senior Partners have revealed that Angel IS to be the recipient, and it will be his reward for fighting ON THEIR SIDE. Not Angelus. Angel. The supposedly good guy vampire with the soul. He will be rewarded for fighting on the side of the bad guys in what we're assuming is that big final battle mentioned in the original "Fray" series. So, here's the question:

How can there be any "Buffy and Angel happily ever after" once that has happened? Have the Bangels been holding out for a future that isn't gonna happen, or will their star crossed lovers simply be reunited in some Happy Hunting Ground after they both die?
 
I'm not very familiar with the comics, I read them on internet and long after reviews and opinions had been already stated on different sites and forums. (my poorly excuse being that the shipping costs are higher than the TPB).

I have mixed feelings about the Shanshu Prophecy as it was revealed in Angel AtF.

First: I can't believe that Angel will accept becoming human as a reward from SP. He gave up to a normal human life with the woman he loved. He also has to forgive himself for his past crimes.

Second: If Angel is the big picture guy as he was portrait since now, knowing that he will fight on the bad guys front of the Apocalypse, how come he didn't kill himself, a preemptive strike like his order for Lindsey to be killed?

Third: I start to understand some of Angel fans, those who feel that Joss lost the character of Angel or that he never understood him. The biggest impact of the AtF was this prophesy revealing and the fact that now Angel will fight against it, somehow negating all what AtS stood for, because those pesky prophecies in the end tend to be fulfilled.

And I feel like Joss warned the IDW guys not to advance any further with Angel character because he has some dark plans with him, related to Buffy Season 8 or 9 (Twilight, who knows)

With all these in mind, I have to agree with the statement that if Spike is love's bitch, Angel is destiny's bitch.

Back in September, when I first posted this, I had a whole big complicated argument all laid out in conjunction with the Shanshu Prophecy, the concept of a First Evil that could actually be fought and, if not defeated, at least temporarily subdued, and several other things that I thought had been tossed into the Buffy and Angel series story lines that sounded good at the moment, but just couldn't be made to work out "right" in the long run. Unfortunately, now, I can't remember a blessed thing about it. Be assured, though, it would have been brilliant, irrefutable, and would have no doubt earned me the BB equivalent of sainthood. There would have been babies named after me and holidays created to denote the occasion. All lost forever.

For now, though, I'll just say that humanity, regardless of how he gets it, doesn't have that much of an appeal for either Angel or Spike. Sure, there's the "having a normal life and growing old with the woman you love" thing, maybe with the possibility of children tossed in as a bonus, but Angel will never have anything resembling a normal life, nor will Spike or Buffy. They're all warriors, and they will remain warriors for as long as they live, no retirement plan or white picket fences in the future for any of them.

I totally agree, what is the use of either Angel or Spike becoming human for Buffy, when Buffy herself is more than human?
 
Personally I don't think this SP thing is as cut and dry as it seems. There are alot more reveals in there. I agree with ubi up there, I think Angel and Spike will be players and Buffy season 9 and that is when we will get some real movement on their stories. As for the Bangel question? To me there are no dreams of a white picket fence etc and the perfect ending for Buffy and Angel is that they go out together, fighting. They won't get normal, if they get anything it will be one last toe curling kiss, whispered "I love you's" and then they will go to work. I suppose in Buffy world that is the equivalent to Happily Ever After?

That pretty much agrees with Joss' "Remember The Alamo" scenario as portrayed in the "Fray" series, and, I agree, that's probably how, ultimately. I imagine the final end of Buffy's Last Stand will play out. But I think that there'll be a lot more people involved than just Buffy and Angel, and, as for kissing, toe curling or otherwise, by that point, I just don't see how there'll be a lot of time for it. A few poignant glances, maybe even a thumb's up, a wink, and an "I've got your back, Slayer," then the cameras pan out across a field of charging demons, the roars and growls combining with screams of pain and rage, then a slow fade to black.

Kean agrees: The toe curling smoochies happens in the hours just before the last great battle. Once the battle kicks in then there will come the poignant glances.


Kinda like that last night in the basement in "Chosen," huh?
