The thing is this. I know people are annyoyed with Lucas for constantly changing details and messing around every time he gets a new toy to play with, and I am sure as hell not going to defend the perpetual cash grabs he makes every time he finds these toys, BUT...

There are now so many versions of episodes IV-VI out there that you can pick and choose which version is your favourite and just watch that one. On that note my eyes are so screwed up that I can't see cinematic 3D effects so I won't be watching the latest pillaging of our pockets 🙂

I'll concede that certain decisions made during the prequels tarnished the legacy for me and I was actually blood-spittingly angry when I left the cinema after episode III, but he does have the right to faff around with them as much as we have the right to stay away from the cinema and not condone the continual cashing in.

So true... man, how I hate those midi-chlorians...

In my opinion it's not the prequels themselves that suck. It's the fact that George Lucas just changed stuff and that there are some certain facts in the prequels that contradict things that are told in IV to VI. There are also some pretty heavy plot holes especially in the political parts of the movies. And - as some guy in a review put it - it seems like the script (of Episode I) was just shot after the first draft and nobody did anything about it.

Here's the thing...I don't believe he does.

Did he originally create Star Wars? Yes, he absolutely did. But if it weren't for the fans, he wouldn't be who he is today. He wouldn't be a household name, recognizable throughout the world. Hell, if it weren't for the fans who loved "Star Wars" before it became "A New Hope," we would have that one single Star Wars movie. Just the one. The original Star Wars. Initially, he NEVER planned on making it a trilogy.

Since we, the fans, put him where he is today, he in a way OWES us. He owes us for loving the first Star Wars movie, loving it enough that it become a cultural phenomenon that continues to be absolutely beloved even today. Should he listen to every fan boy that comes along? Absolutely not. But we, as diehard fans of the series, *deserved* a Star Wars prequel trilogy that seemed like he at the very least WATCHED the previous trilogy before writing the new one. It didn't seem like he even cared about the original trilogy, the Star Wars we fell in love with, when creating the prequels.

I'm grateful to Lucas for giving us the original Star Wars movie. Absolutely grateful. But here's the thing, everything after that came as a result of the fans. And then we have the prequels. At this point, Lucas is nothing but a money grubbing clown who simply just doesn't care about good filmmaking. He threw his fans, the people who made him millions, under the bus. And it isn't right.

You obviously feel way more passionately about this than I do and I like you a lot so I am not going to get into a slanging match over something which we both essentially love. All I will say is that yes, we the fans put him where he is today for making the awesomeness that is episodes IV-VI, but we're also guilty of keeping him there when he churns out drivel and re-hashes his old stuff in cynical cash grabs.

I can't rep you again, but: Fair 'nuff. And I agree to an extent. Even I bought the last blu-ray set of all 6 films that was released. The case is beautiful though, so 😛

I have every version of Star Wars that has been released since the 1993 VHS re-masters, so I am pretty much responsible for the whole debacle. And yes the Blu-Ray boxset is gorgeous 🙂

It is. And the picture absolutely doesn't disappoint. With some Blu-ray sets, it seems like they phone in the upscaling, but SW was done so well. Sidenote: I was pulling it out the other day, the actual case, under the slip cover, slipped out and fell to the floor. I literally said, "No! My precious!" 😛
