The strongest Female role on buffy

who do you think was the strongest? not just in a typical strength way but also in character/acting/depth etc.

Personally for me Faith was the one who i thought was the best actor, unfortunatly she didnt spend much time in the series as i would have liked but ohwell.

I guess character wise Willow was my favourite. She seemed to have a side to her which although she pretended wasnt there (until she went uber evil when Tara died) was always present. I think that she was absolutly the most powerful of them all and her willingness to kill for her friends was kinda scary!

The strongest female overall in the Buffyverse I would have to say was Cordelia. Her time on Angel showed her to be caring, mature, strong, willful, and entirely self-sacrificing without letting anyone push her around. Charisma plyed her perfectly. Just on Buffy, I think Faith was strong physically, but not so much mentally. Anya was interesting, because she was so self-confident and didn't care what people thought. Tara though, was strong in a very quiet way. She stood up to Willow, and dealt with always being an outsider. Moreover, Amber dealt with a lot of hate, and didn't change the character one jot in compromise. That's good acting. Plus she's adoreable, and by far the strongest female singer!

I agree, I think Willow is the most interesting and complex female character, you can never really figure her out. Powerful and weak, loving and hating, caring and daring... Joss mentions in the commentaries that the show needed someone like Willow, because Buffy needs to be the hero which means that she can't be as complex as a character.

In complexity/depth I'd go for Willow for all the reasons already mentioned; in terms of strength of character I agree with Five by Five, it's probably Tara. From her refusal to tell Glory what she wanted to know, on pain of a squashed hand and suckage of brain, to her standing up to MojoJunkie!Willow and leaving her, while very clearly loving her still, and to her facing Anya (and, to a lesser degree, Xander) to defend the woman she just broke up with in "OAFA" - that's powerful. Also the unconventional and wise reaction she shows to Buffy confessing her "thing" with Spike: "It's ok if you love him, and it's ok if you don't." And I like it to see that even with all that strength of character, she remains unassuming, with no need to take center stage and show off - a quiet powerhouse, if you will. I admire her.

Best of all, that's the kind of strength/power we mundane, non-Buffyverse mortals can aspire to too, withaout having slayer strength, magic or vamp abilities.

To me, undoubtedly the strongest woman ever portrayed on either show was Joyce Summers. With no training whatsoever, she stood up to Angel, to Spike, to Faith, and even to Buffy herself. Even before she knew about the Slayer/vampire/demon situation, she never backed down from anything that ever threatened her family, and she never showed the slightest trace of fear. Even when Faith had her held her prisoner, she never backed down. "Are you going to kill me anytime, or are you just going to talk me to death?" Even Faith had to admit that Joyce had a set on her.

I couldn't swear to it, because it never was shown on the show, but I would be very willing to bet that when Death finally came to collect that lady, she spat in his face.
