The Subliminal Messages in Buffy!

I'm sorry since now if I'm posting in the wrong place, I'm a freshman:embarrassed:
However...
Yesterday I was watching the episode GONE, and I found out something upsetting: when Xander leaves naked Spike and invisible Buffy in Spike's cript, after the argument the two lovers have,Buffy evidently starts doing something to Spike's low jewels and... the scene cuts up to the Internet point, and we first see the back of a man, on whose shirt is written "Pumps".
Don't you think it' a bit disturbing? Have you noticed any other little things like this in the series?
 
Well i've never noticed it myself but it could either be an inside joke/subliminal not sure if i would call it a message to influence any persons...or just a funny coincedence
 
OK, It's not properly a subliminal message, but something like that, a joke, I'm not accusing Joss Whedon of influencing fans mind, it's just fun.

I think Joss did allot of stuff like this, like he'll be talking about it in one scene and the next scene links back to it.

Like I don't know if anyone else feels really dumb doing a rewatch but the amount of scenes where there's things like "What could the key be?" Cut to Dawn walking into the magic box... etc

I've never noticed that. It's really meh, but not disturbing. Just uncomfortable to watch as well as other S6 Spuffy scenes.
 
hm, I've never noticed that, I'll keep an eye open for that next time I view the episode (love that scene though, actually love the whole ep)
 
I rather enjoy the tongue-in-cheek jokes on Buffy. It took me years to find out what happened to Ms. Kitty Fantastico. I never paid attention to Dawn when she says she's not allowed to handle crossbows because of what happened to the kitty. I was disturbed when I did find out though...

But not too many "subliminal" jokes.

HAHAH Oh my god, I have to go watch it again. I missed that! I love that episode, it's so funny. And I REALLY love the Spuffy part where Spike tells Buffy she's only there because she's not. But I'll have to go watch that again... and it probably was just a joke.

Doesn't say, but Dawn's not allowed to play with crossbows, and the kitty's gone.
I would call things like that "nods" more than anything.

Like in Bad Eggs when Buffy and Angel are having their "All I see is you" talk about their futures and as the scene pans out we are left with the extended shot of the headstone that reads "In Loving Memory".

Next ep, Angel loses his soul and their dreams of a future together with it.

Thank you! I was just gonna say I love the episode and find that scene in particular hilarious, does that make me perturbed? Lol. Glad there's more invisible Buffy having her way with Spike love :biggrin:
 
I'll look for it the next time I watch that episode. I think it's Joss' way of getting things in there that he couldn't normally. But I'll look, 🙂
