Why did FX cut out some lines in Once More With Feeling? Like when we first see Dawn come into the Magic Box she says

Cut to later. Dawn enters the store wearing a huge smile.

DAWN: Oh my god. You will never believe what happened at school today.

Reveal the rest of the gang sitting around the table looking at books.

BUFFY: Everybody started singing and dancing?

Dawn looks disappointed.

DAWN: I gave birth to a pterodactyl.
ANYA: Oh my god, did it sing
?

On the original airing on UPN they kept that line in, but in FX they cut that line out why? After Buffy said "Everybody started singing and dancing?", they cut straight to Dawn saying "So you guys too huh?"

FX here in the UK cut out things too, some are understandable, I guess, others not so much. The ones I remember are:

-the entire first act of The Body, from when Buffy finds Joyce dead, to where the first ad break would be. It completely ruins the flow and impact of the episode.

-Spike's line in Tabula Rasa is changed to: 'Randy Giles, why not just call me Giles or desperate for a Giles.' Ruins the joke a bit.

-another Spike line from Bargaining, 'Cup of tea, cup of tea', omitting the 'almost got shagged' part.

-Spike snapping Nikki Wood's neck, and Angel snapping Jenny's neck.

-Dru sucking Spike's finger in Fool for Love.

Never watched Buffy on TV. They cut everything 🙁 Just watch it online or buy the DVD's, cause TV channels have ruined it.

Ever watching ANGEL on Sci-Fi (I refuse to call it Syfy)? I swear not only did they cut scenes that didn't make sense to cut, but they sped up fight scenes! I watched the episode where Angel puts a wire around Lindsay's neck and it's like they fast forwarded through the scene 😵 Happens with some other fight scenes too.

They cut out the pterodactyl part?? But Anya's response is so funny! 😛 I wonder who these people are that actually take the time to cut out funny parts of TV shows... They must have no sense of humor. 🙁

Some scenes are cut in order to make room for more commercial time, and some lines are altered or cut entirely because someone with the authority to do so has decided that certain words or actions are "inappropriate" to be aired when younger viewers are watching. Understandable up to a point, but still, quite often it tends to ruin the affect that the writers were trying to achieve or change it entirely.

That's annoying when scenes are cut out. Kinda ruins it. Oh but they have to make room for even more commercials...right.

Yeah...if anyone sees Once More with Feeling for the first time on TV they are likely gonna miss out (Parts of songs were cut too when I saw it on Chiller)

Guys, you don't really want to complain about how your TV treated Buffy: in Italy we had to wait for the DVDs to see New Moon Rising..and don't let me start talking about the translation and the dubbing!

A typical one-hour show runs for a total of 42-44 minutes without commercials. OMWF ran for 50 minutes and was allowed to on it's original airing with UPN's permission, but stations with syndicate rights must keep in their 18 minutes of commericals each hour to appease the agreement with advertisers and so the station can get the advertising dollars. Otherwise, if it wasn't possible to trim the episode it wouldn't be aired in syndication so there are worse alternatives than episode fat-trimming!

They seem to cut out a lot in the UK. I think I remember reading that they also cut out the part when Anya cuts her face in After Life...I'm not sure what network it was on. And here I thought Americans had the bad rep when it came to censorship 😉 I know for a fact that they kept the neck breaking in Passion when they aired it on FX here a couple of times.

Why did they cut the first act of The Body?? I can understand why they cut out some of the other stuff but man...that is so lame!
