The time between Season 6 and 7

I have been doing a rewatch recently and just watched Grave directly followed by Lessons.

Does anyone have any theories about what happens between these episodes?

Firstly, how much time has passed?

I always thought it had been a standard summer break period of about 2-3 months or so but Buffy's hair has grown so much that it shows it has been more like 6 months. And that's if her hair grows super duper fast.

I imagine that Xander and Willow sat up at the bluff for the entire day before heading back down to the gang. I think they would have spent some time taking care of her and Giles to get them both better before Giles tool Willow to England.

Was Buffy still working at Doublemeat Palace the whole time? And furthermore, once she took the school job did she keep her job at Doublemeat Palace?

I've always wondered this too. All the financial worries from s6 go out the window in s7. I'm going to say no, because she seems eager to take the new job so she can quit the doublemeat palace. Also once the potentials come she has no time for 2 jobs. If shes smart she probably would have kept both jobs for at least a month to make extra money. Cuz principal wood says that its a part time job that doesnt pay well. I assume that once Giles arrives he starts helping out.

I always figured it had to be months if not a full year, too. Crazy!Spike had to make it from Africa to Sunnydale without killing humans and combusting. Willow needed time to be detoxed and then rebooted. Tara's grave had a headstone - and I doubt her family set it up. If it was Willow then it would be a year (Jewish tradition - she did leave the stones). Buffy seemed like she was over the various traumas of season 6. Dawn had learned some ancient languages - not something all that easy. All the characters seemed to change in ways that took more than 2 - 3 months.

We have no real idea how long the time gap between Season 6 and 7 actually was, but having it be more than just a few months would make more sense for several reasons, not the least of which is Willow's time of recuperation from the whole Dark Willow business and Buffy's apparent recovery from her traumas of the previous Season. Also, having more than just the summer between Seasons might explain why Buffy's financial worries seem to be a thing of the past. Given more time, she might have actually worked her way up to Manager at the Double Meat Palace, especially considering the fast turnover of the employees there.

I just figure she must have run into an inheritance from a relative she never really knew. 😀

I don't think it was long at all, because Giles would have wanted to get Willow under the protection of the coven very quickly. And Buffy would have insisted she get help fast, plus she would not have wanted her to face any police charges in Sunnydale.
And how long was Willow in England? Not long enough to learn what bangers and mash are? Willow is meant to be an intelligent person. As bangers are a very common breakfast food and mash is only mashed potato, a common supplement at the evenings meal. If Willow had been in Cornwall more than a few weeks she would have known what they were.

From a practical real world application - it would have taken place between Dawn's last attendance in school and the start of her high school year. There is nothing in the series to indicate that Dawn was not attending school on a regular school year schedule. This time seems short but unless Sunnydale is on a very long summer break for their school system, it would not have been 6 or more months between school years.

To me 3 1/2 to 4 months sounds about right. June, July, August and Sept.

Enough time for Buffy to properly get over her S6 funk, for Spike to get to and from Africa by boat, enough time for Dawn to get a bit more proficient at fighting.
And a reasonable ammount of time for Willow to spend with Giles and a coven, greiving, gettinga better handle of what she did, and learning about controlling the magics, but not to have finishing her learning.

Dawn's starting her first day of high school during the first episode right? I could'nt have been that long.
