The Trio

I think the way the Trio evolved was quite believable. They started out as this funny group but then got in way over their heads. They were just typical nerds, but with an evil twist.

But I must say that I just loved their conversations. All those little things, the small nerd-comments that always sent me laughing, was marvelous.

And, yeah - Sean Connery is the real James Bond.

I think Warren was the only one who turned evil...Andrew was going the same way, probably cos he was in love with Warren, or just admired him too much, but Jonathan seemed to be mostly confused to me. He wanted to be part of something, and he wanted to have friends, and he probably realised that Buffy and the scoobies would never be his friends, but he still didn't want them hurt. Like when he told Buffy what was giving Warren his superpowers. And his reaction when that girl (can't remember her name, Warren's girlfriend) accused them of rape, and he seemed really upset. I think Jonathan had been living too much in another world, and didn't realise that this was reality. He didn't realise how much he could hurt Buffy, but when he did, he tried helping.
Gonna stop typing before this gets even more confusing, but I hope some of it made some sense!

Yes, very good points, and yes, you did make sense. I thought the same thing about Jonathan. He was willing to take Buffy down a peg or two, but in the end he still owed her his life, and he came down on the side of good. Saved Xander and Dawn from Andrew when they were escaping too!

I am probably almost the only one who didn't really like The Trio. I never liked Jonathan, he was ok when he just showed up once in a while, but he does annoy me when he's there all the time.. Warren I just never liked, which has nothing to do with him turning evil (since I don't really believe he did.. which is another story)..
The Trio was ok I guess.. but they are probably one of the things I like the least about season 6.. Just didn't find them that funny.. or they would be funny I guess, I would like them.. but I like that season 6 is that depressing.. adn they're not a part of that..

I agree, I never really liked them. They were okay and all and the actors were cool (bwaha met them!) but not a big fan of the characters. I never found Andrew funny so he ruined S7 for me (well and the potentials but he is similar to a pre-pubesent girl).

There were times when they were useful, such as the doctor saying "You used to face gods, and now you're facing three nerds you went to high school with" to Buffy in Normal Again as it really had an impact but all in all I wouldn't shed a tear if they weren't there.

Okay, here's my attempt to stand up for the trio 😉

I think they were to show that evil comes in all shapes and form. And here we have the human variety...

3 Geeks who team up to take over Sunnydale but all go in differnt directions. All Warren is thinking about is power, Jonathon didn't really want to be a supervillan after awhile due to all the hurt and pain that was being caused and Andrew just followed Warren. It started off as a joke, something you could laugh at and turned into something dark.

I thought Andrew in season 7 was great. He provided alot of comic reliaf. In my opinion "Storyteller" was one of the best episode of the season 😀 then again...thats just me.

I like that thing too, the doctor saying that, I could only think of how true it was.. They are a joke compared to Glory or Angelus..

I don't think Andrew ruined season 7 though, to me he was was one of those things that were ok.. He's not great but he's ok compared to the potentials.

And I do understand why The Trio were there, I get why they should be nerds and human and all that.. It might have been a good idea even.. It just didn't work to me. Whenever there is a nerd-scene in any of the season 6 episodes, I'm just waiting for it to end. I don't even really consider them to be a real part of the show..

Hmmm...I guess each to thier own!

Andrew was one of the reasons season 7 was my favourite. Infact all my favourite S7 episodes are very much Andrew oriented.

He was who I least expected to survive on Buffy the longest out of the trio.

I didn't really like the Trio that much. I don't think they served well as seasonal villains, it might've been easier if they were just episodic villains, such as four four or five episodes. But really, I think that their storyline and obssession with Buffy was just too strung out in season six, honestly, their storylines half of the time just bored me to death. Especially in Flooded, Dead Things, Entropy, and Seeing Red. Those episodes I just couldn't stand the scenes they were in, just bored me to death.

And I agree, I believe that Warren was the one who truly went evil, he was the one who seemed to be concocting all of these little "plans", and he was the one who even killed Katrina (and Tara 🙁).

In season seven, Andrew was funny a few times, but most of the time, the scenes and him just felt out of place. He didn't really belong with the Scoobies, working alongside them, in my opinion. It just didn't feel right.

if you think about it the scoobies really underestimated them, they killed Tara and nearly killed buffy and made willow all WOoo im soo evil

Actually Warren did that.. and not cause he had this brilliant plan or was really smart.. sure he did plan to kill Buffy but the other things were just.. accidents..

Yeah, but he was intent on mayhem, and very unapologetic about the stuff he did. Just look at how he was once Willow caught him...no remorse, except for the pain she was inflicting. His consequences may have been unpredicted, but they were far from accidents.

It's true that Warren (and the Trio) wanted to do lots of evil things. They were trying to be real bad villains but I don't think they succeeded that well. What Warren did in Seeing Red was out of anger and not cause he was really evil or had this smart plan. I'm not saying what he/they did didn't have huge consequences for the characters we care about, but I don't think the Trio is underestimated since they had no idea that what they (he) did would cause the almost end of the world. That was something they didn't at all plan. Sure they wanted to kill the slayer, like all baddies do, but I don't think I'm underestimating them when I say they didn't exactly succeed as villains.

I know eveeryone hates them lol, bu i noticed that they look like the 3 nascar drivers lol.

Warren - Kurt Busch
Andrew - Kasey Kahne
Johnathan - Tony Stewart

lol i thought that was funny. those nascar drivers above are the bad guys kinda lol 🙂

In Defence of the Trio

I don't like the fact that Johnathon and Andrew are getting tarred with the same brush as Warren. Warren was always a bit of a perv. He's introduced to the series as a guy who's made a robot girlfriend to do his every bidding. The other two aren't like that though.

Johnathon has had his serious moments, but his purpous in the series has mainly been a comic one and I personally think of him as one of my favorite characters. One of the saddest things IMO is how much his departure was underplayed. Johnathon has a good heart, but gets mislead. He's in the trio becuase he thinks it's cool and he's finally found people who think he's cool.

Andrew is maybe not quite as saintly, but he isn't sinister at heart like Warren. He is very much a humourous character. He has some of the funniest lines in the show. There are also the funny hints about his feelings towards Warren.

Even Warren himself isn't always as bad as he becomes. I personally think he's a great example of how someone can become corrupt in the pursuit of power. He also brings the message that not all the evils in the world are demons; human beings are capable of terrible things too. I think that is a good point to bring across in this type of programme.

The best thing about the Trio is their overall rappor. They make a brillient triple act. The concept of sci-fi nerds being the villens is such an enterataining one.

I love their list of objectives where they have things like "control weather" alongside "see naked women".

I love the James Bond argument. Particularly the bit where Andrew blurts out "Timothy Dalton should get an oscar and beat Sean Connery over the head with it!" It's just the way he says it with such seriousness and anger. That scene sums up the trio.

I have to disagree with your take on Jonathan. His main problem was he was always trying to solve things with the big gesture (e.g. 'Earshot', 'Superstar'). He did it twice and never learned his lesson. Only at the end did he and got killed for it.

True he wasn't as evil as Warren, but Warren was a slime-sucking scumbag. For killing Tara, flaying was too quick a punishment for him.

I would agree that Jonathan's "tragic flaw" is his tendancy to take the easy way out and not work to solve things. Which is why I find what he says to Buffy in "Superstar" about her relationship with Riley taking work, so ironic. The poor guy can't even take his own advice!

but, I would argue that the Trio aren't even the primary villians for Season 6. In my opinion, they're a distraction, a device Joss uses to keep our attention off of the real menace that's building, and then Warren (with his oh-so-manly gun) becomes the device that releases that menace. Willow's magic "addiction" (and it's consequences, like bringing Buffy back from the dead) is the real issue that's building from the first few minutes of Bargaining pt. 1 on. And, if you think about it, Willow has the same flaw as Jonathan. She looks for the easy way out, and for her, that's almost always magic. (Exhibit A: The extra-biodegradeabley party decorations, the "I will it so" spell from Something Blue, dressing in 3 seconds with magic, etc etc etc.)

Ok, to get back on topic, I love the Trio, because I am also a sci-fi/fantasy nerd (and proud of it!) and I relate to them...when they're not being all evil. I loved Adam Busch, because he made Warren just the creepiest guy on the planet, even when he's just building a creepy AprilBot. Danny Strong is just the cutest thing and Tom Lenk is obviously a great comedien. But as far as the characters go, I was rooting for SOMEONE (not Willow, cause of the consequences) to kill Warren by the time Dead Things rolled around.

The Trio were okay. I could have done without their lame attempts to beat Buffy. Now if those same attempts were just a way to get something else done and ended up affecting B the same way I would have liked them alot more.
