The Trio

So having been rewatching season 6, I have to say, as characters, the Trio are actually not too bad. In fact, I think they're pretty well written.

They're very good representations of people who are mentally stuck in high school and are in over their heads. Warren may not actually be as competent as past villains but in a way that makes him just as dangerous and no less evil as seen by his rape and murder of his ex girlfriend. I guess it is kind of an odd turn for the guy we saw last in season 5 but I feel it works well.

Andrew and Jonathan? These two are a bit tricky. On the one hand I think the show does make it clear these guys are morons in over their head. It doesn't excuse the clearly deplorable things they get involved with and the show makes that clear enough. They want to be big and have power but they're worng in how they approach it.

I always though Warren was the best big bad because his crimes were real world crimes. Rape, murder, gun crime, all things that could happen to anyone of us. So for me they must have been well written to make me feel that way.

It annoys me how Andrew has somehow become a Scoobie. How did that happen? Honestly he ought to be doing 25 to life in maximum security 😀

Hanging out with the Scoobies is a worse fate than being in prison. He wouldn't live as long.

I like the Trio. Warren does represent real life "big bad". And I think Jonathon and Andrew show what can happen when followers choose the wrong leaders. I like how at the core Jonathon always held onto a spot of humanity. He was lonely, he wanted friends even if he knew what they were doing was wrong but at the same time he never really could be truly bad. I love how he told Buffy to break Warren's balls.

Why would I be joking? If Spike can change and be accepted, why can't Andrew do the same? I'm just saying there's a precedent on the part of the Scoobies that makes Andrew joining the group not that outlandish.
