The Universe - what are your thoughts?

I've never come across a thread like this here on BB before, and if there is one - my apologies. Being fans of the "Buffy World", we've come to love things that just aren't natural: vampires, magic, demons, and different worlds and dimensions. However, if we look into our very own natural universe, we can witness a fraction of things that our brains cannot even begin to grasp. Black holes, stars, galaxies, and even the vast size of the universe. These are just some things out there that we know of. I don't want to turn this into a science/religion debate because that would be my last intention, but I just want to know what everyone here thinks of this. I mean, it's videos like this one that make me realize how obsolete we really are.

There are thousands of theories out there, ones about civilizations that are so advanced they make us look like cavemen trying to access the internet, and how we can colonize our galaxy to make our species essentially immortal. Do you guys think there is life out there? Advanced life? Will we ever know all the secrets to our universe? Why are we even here? Is there a beginning? Will there be an end?

I don't care if you keep it short and sweet or long and detailed, just wanna know what you guys think about it. 🙂

I don't know what I think. When I was like 10 and the X-files was my favourite program I totally "believed", lol. I guess I'm still open to the idea though, but I don't really sit and think about it. 🙂

That aside, I have to ask: Who the heck was the little boy at 1.30 who was rocking out to a song? That was friggin' funny! 😀
 
I don't believe that Terra (Tellus in swedish) is the only place in the universe with life. It would be naive to think otherwise in my opinion. How evolved that life is however just guesses. But it's more fun imagine it being something like humans or something more evolved right? 😉

Don't have time to watch the vid right now but I will later today. I'm sure it's interesting.
 
I've seen that image of the galaxies before. It's just mind-boggling and just as impossible to get a grip of like those huge numbers they are talking about in the video imo.

Can totally believe that there is other lifeforms out there. But how evolved?
Really don't think there is any super intelligent life that can travel around the universe in silly looking saucers and that actually visit us from time to time though...

I believe that is the Numa guy, I didn't think it fit the video at all. It was just so random. Lol. 😛

Yeah, it is something fun to think about. I think it would be close to impossible to be the only life in the vast universe.. it's just ridiculous to think otherwise.

The video is awesome though Wash! The first time I watched it literally gave me chills, the narrator's voice fits so perfectly, as does the music! 😀

Tell me about it, it's ridiculous how in the media we're always perceived to be so dang interesting to aliens. I mean come on, Roswell? If your technology is so advanced you can travel vast distances of space in an instant, you're going to crash on Earth? Lol. In reality I don't think any "super intelligent life" would go through the trouble, because we're pretty boring. However, there is one definite fact : they could not resist the temptation of our popcorn!

As to the universe, in all of its vastness and all of its mysteries, I think that I prefer to champion the principal put forth by the Great Bird Of The Galaxy (otherwise known as Gene Roddenberry) in the Vulcan belief if IDIC, meaning Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. In other words, I can readily accept as fact that, somewhere tn that vastness, there exists every possibility that we might imagine, and many more, besides. Therefore, somewhere out there, a small blond Slayer is staring back this way and asking her one and only true love, " Do you think that there's a place out there somewhere where there's a place where vampires, demons, and Slayers only exist as fictional characters on a TV show?"

And he answers, "Hell, pet, anything's possible. There might even be someplace out there where Peaches doesn't spend all his time either brooding or rubbing that Nancy boy hair jell into his soddin' hair."

And she replies, "Okay, that's enough philosophizing for one night. Let's go back to your crypt and do something revoltingly immoral and breathtakingly sexual."

(What, you thought that I'd iet an opportunity like that slip by without exploiting it?)

Oh goodness... Humans, immortal? I sure hope that I don't live to see THAT day... 😀

You know, there might be. But I doubt it, there are many resources that you need to sustain actual life, and it takes at LEAST thousands of years to actually achieve "Advanced" life.

I think that there's a reason for it being called "The Circle of Life". A circle can have no beginning, and therefore have no ending.

Thanks. :) I figured too once I actually even enter college at the very least, that I'd be able to offer more of my own insight with greater knowledge. Lol.
I'm not really sure about any of the sciencey stuff but I just always think to myself that if we live on this planet then it is just as easy for others to live on another one. People dismiss things so easily which seems crazy in a world where we discover new things all of the time!

But OUR planet, as I said, has resources that are uncharacteristic of other planets. Water, for one. 😀 Granted, maybe there are different forms of life on other planets that have water (assuming that there actually ARE other planets that have water... We haven't discovered any as of yet.), following the theory of evolution, of course, but if there ARE forms of life than I'd guess that it wouldn't be particularly similar to "life" here.

And my god T, that's creepy. (sw) Ugh. I'm wondering if life is too long? 😛 I can't imagine human-robot hybrids being a positive thing.
