Is anyone else watching the latest addition to the Whoniverse? It's the last Who co-production between the BBC and Disney and tells a Doctor-less UNIT story featuring the Doctor's old foes the Sea Devils (last seen in the 13th Doctor special in 2022 - Legend of the Sea Devils) who are now known, more correctly according to UNIT, as Homo Aqua.
I've seen the first two episodes so far and I think they've been pretty good. The story is shaping up to be a moral tale of humanity's destruction of the Earth's aquatic environments and how the sentient inhabitants of the water have had enough. Unfortunately The Doctor isn't currently around to help his old chums from UNIT defend the surface dwellers against the wrath of the sea creatures. How will we cope without him (or her, whoever they turn out to be in their next regeneration 🤔)? I'm assuming that 10/14 is still recuperating with Donna and her family.
As ever, IMO, RTD has come up with the goods - this time writing with Pete McTighe, who previously wrote episodes in the 13th and 15th Doctor's runs, and also has many credits for various Aussie shows, including Neighbours. This is an epic story of impending doom and destruction and is shaping up to be a worthy addition to Classic Who. As always with TV SF a willing suspension of disbelief is required but I've never found that a problem. Russell T...ovey 😉 is excellent as the Everyman hero Barclay and Gugu Mbatha-Raw is quite inscrutable as the Sea Devil spokesfish (?) Salt. Many of the UNIT characters from previous recent Who eps are also there providing top notch support (I'm particularly liking Colin McFarlane as General Pierce, who has the most wonderful voice).
All in all TWBTLAS is highly Pointily recommended 👍👍👍
