Throughout the show Buffy & the council never saw eye to eye. Do you think that they have the potential to be interesting or good "Big Bad" potential for a season? If so share some ideas on how you think that scenario might go.

I would have loved it if the Watcher's Council had been the big bad. I really was convinced the writers were headed that way after Season 3 but it never happened. I think they would have made awesome villains in Season 4 or maybe later.

After the events of Helpless, the Faith fiasco, Wesley and Giles getting fired etc, the stars just seemed aligned for Buffy to go head to head with them. I can actually see the Council going so far as to try and have Buffy and Faith killed, so a new, more "controllable" slayer like Kendra, would be called.

I think The Watcher's Council as the Big Bad for Season 4 would have worked a lot better for me than the "Government is evil" thing they tried to do with the Initiative.

I definitely agree with this! The counsil and the initiative have a lot of similarities but I think the council would have been more interesting.

I actually liked The Initiative & don't ever think they tried to portray the government as evil. I definitely think it could have been executed better, but I think the government angle touched on an aspect that Out of Sight, Out of Mind did. The outside world & how they responded to weird/demonic activity.

The Watchers Council on Buffy could have been the Wolfram and Hart on Angel.. the 'business-evil' ..the 'machine' ..yes the WC could have started out with good intentions.. and so on. Yet the writers took a different approach with them.

Yes, I think they would have been a great enemy. I loved how the ones who were supposed to teach, guide, and support the slayer were so corrupt and unstable. They also had immense resources and power at their disposal. It would have been very interesting!

I was a sort of disappointed of the Council of watchers. On the one hand I was surpised how evil the council really was just like Wolfram and Hart. Then on the other hand it was so sad because they could have made a really good storyline with the council of watchers. May they are totally bad, may they seperate into good watchers and bad watchers fighting each other. There could be some great Ripper scenes been out-taken. I was surprised that in season 7 the council was killed so suddenly and whished there could have been better explanation for it!

I agree. I love season 4 but...yeah. We all know that the government is evil, no need to shove that down our throats. Although I did like the whole, "You freaks, with your gourds! You don't know how to kill demons, grrr!!" ...thing. It made seeing him killed by that wildebeest in slow-mo all the more lovely.

For me the Watcher's council always figured as a sort of evil, a different sort of evil granted, not one that you had to slay but far more realistically one that you had to compromise with at times and more or less learn how to play their game.
