The way Spike treated Harmony

Yes I sometimes feel sympathetic towards Harmony, but this thread cracks me up because as Spike himself would say "And you're what, shocked and surprised? Do I have to remind you that I'm evil?".

And I'll be quoting Xander here, "And sooner or later that excuse just stops working."

Spike had grown up and changed, but his treatment of Harmony never did. He still treated her like dirt even after he'd gotten a soul. Annoying or stupid, he's not justified at all.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I feel like his treatment of Harmony in Angel season 5 wasn't all that bad. He was just making it painfully obvious he didn't want to be with her. I mean, there was a better way to go about it... like saying "Just so you know, I don't want to get back together at all." But I think Spike was doing what Spike does, trying to avoid talking about things. So he dropped anvils saying "I do not want to get back together with you."

Conclusion: Is Spike perfect? HA! Absolutely not. He's flawed up the wazoo. Are his actions understandable? Yes. Absolutely.

Yeah, in Angel Season 5 I agree and I don't think it's necessarily abusive, just not very nice or mature of him. But in 'In Harm's Way' I think they end on a nice note.

Do you think it was wrong how he treated Harmony? Is there a pattern here? Did he deserve to be treated like that by Buffy just because he's done it to another girl? Is this karma?

This is something I struggle with as well. I love Spike dearly, but his treatment of Harmony was unacceptable. He was a bully, manipulative, and just plain mean to her.

No, I do to think there is a pattern. Overall, Spike treats women very well. He doted on and adored Dru, and he treats Buffy like a goddess. Harmony seemed to be the exception. She brought out the worst in him, and it was clear he was using her.

Did he deserve to be treated badly by Buffy? No. And is this karma? No. It's just Spike. He's not perfect.
