The WB are just mean! Haven't you noticed

What exactly is wrong with the WB huh? ::huh::
Angel is there best show on there channel, why do they want to get rid of it?
It seems really strange, last year Angel season four was the reason for their channel's ratings going up. It even beat Smallville thier best and most popular channel on the WB.
And yet they want tot get rid of it? ::huh::

Here's some notes I was making. I was going to post this information in a separate thread, but it seems to fit in here.

It happened on Friday the thirteenth.

Jordan Levinson the CEO of Warner Bros responsible for cancelling Angel is a new guy.

Levinson expressed his displeasure with Angel Fans at the 100th episode celebration when he said, "they want storytelling that is open-ended and serialized, and has a deep and complex mythology. That makes it very tough to bring a new audience in."

Thus begins the Jordan levinson regime of the WB network.

(By the way if you hate what's been happening to Gilmore Girls this season, blame Jordan Levinson. He's doing what he's calling transitioning)

The ratings were up against last year's. They measured decently against all other prime time shows, and never rated in the bottom half when measured against other WB shows. The ratings were steadily improving as well. 2.3 for Soul Purpose to 3.6 for Just Rewards. The ratings for the first half hour of broadcasts were as good as the ratings for the second half - translation: people tuning in were not tuning out.

The WB network's hold on the young demographic that all networks deem precious, something like 18 to 34 year-olds, has fallen this fiscal year about 17%. This may have something to do with the decision to cancel, as Angel is an older series and may be viewed as too inteligent for the broader mainstream youth audience.

Angel's budget had decreased from the previous year. Contrary to what people on message boards are saying, it was comparatively cheap to produce.

lol...the only thing I can't boycott is Charmed, although that doesn't mean I am watching it on the WB. I have been watching it on TNT...and I don't get the WB anyways, so its not like I have a hard time not watching the channel. Lol.

Charmed is on at 6:00 p.m. Eastern time every weekday and the newer episodes are on at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday nights...just in case people wanted to watch this show...but not watch it on the WB.

Yeah I'm pretty lousy with names - worse when I lack respect for the person.

Some stuff I do remember though. Levin has been around Warner Bros awhile (about 10 years I believe). He has only recently been appointed CEO however, if I can believe the article here:

From what I've been hearing about the guy I'm not sure you can write the decision to cancel Angel off to purely business (translate money) motivations.

True Levin is big on attracting the youth market, and that might translate into bucks. Angel is an aging series with aging stars.

I'm not sure Levin's decision ends there though. I remember reading how Levin was discussing with Joss the direction Angel should take after the 100th episode. Levin seems to think he should take a strong hand in creative decisions. I'm not sure that would fly with Joss.

From what I've read Levin has had a major influence in the direction of Charmed over the past few years. That show dumbs down more each year. I have a feeling Levin is going after the 12 to 18 market, but I don't think he has a lot of respect for the intelligence of that market. You'll notice Gilmore Girls also appears to be dumbing down a little. I've been hearing rumbles of Levin getting his greasy fingers in there as well.

You'll notice Charmed hasn't been cancelled. I'm not sure the numbers are good enough to excuse that in comparison to Angel's. Didn't I read somewhere Angel is the number 2 WB show after Smallville?

I can't help thinking Levin's decision has less to do with business, and more to do with control. It's political.

It sounds like he is trying to be the first dictor of network tv.
 
Well...fans of The West Wing have lobbed the same accusation against Jeff Zuckerman, president of NBC. Unfortunately, network execs meddling in the creative process isn't new. This kind of micromanaging is symbolic of the corporate culture that has stifled creativity in the television field. I understand that they have to sell ads and pay for the costs of production but it's ultimately the creative people who should determine how well a show does, not some elitist appointee from the board of directors. ::nono1::

Well, there's Showtime, HBO and Fox Sports World to take up my time.
 
Have you heard anything

Hi guys I was just wondering what are Joss and the guys going to do.
Are they trying or planning anything,have you guy heard anything? ::huh1::
 
I doubt we'll know anything they are doing for sure for awhile...If anyone finds anything out though, I'd also really like to know...
