Just throwing this topic out there for people who may or may not have read the book series. I just finished re reading it because of the January release of the final book.

I need to re-start it at some point. I bought them all just after book 10 had been released and have kept buying them as they have come out because I am an obsessive compulsive completionist and if I buy something that is in a set, I have to get the full set or it drives me crazy. I actually stopped reading part way through book 6, although I had thoroughly enjoyed the first 5, because it felt to me like he was slow-playing to make the series continue and i wasn't prepared to read another 500+ pages just get to the next one. This is partly my fault as I had read them all back-to-back and was probably just burned out on it and should have taken a break and re-started book 6.
I'm on The Shadow Rising right now. ...I've been on it for a while. The books are just so damn long. I'm used to reading books that move at a faster pace.
Also, I'm getting really sick of the whole everyone-is-in-love-with-Rand. I just put it down to him being ta'averen, but the plotline is still tiresome.
And does anyone else think that Robert Jordan is really bad at writing female characters? All of them are sexist and are basically variations on the same template. He keeps trying to write them as strong females, but they come off really annoying and bossy. I don't mind a character like that--but when all of them are the same? Meh.
I realise this post sounds as though I don't like the books--but I really do! Just want to get some of my gripes out.

I love the series and can't wait for the last one. The books are very long, though. I am sad we won't get to see the Outrigger novels. I would go into more detail about what they were supposed to be about, but I don't want to risk spoiling something,

As for them being sexist, I have heard Jordan meant to create a matriarchal society as a opposed to a patriarchal one (though I'm not sure he succeeds there) so maybe that's why the women are sexist since during the 1700's (I think Jordan has stated the era is supposed to be similar to the 1700's without guns technology wise)most men were probably sexist.

Yeah a lot of the female characters do tend to get on my nerves as well. They all seem to have the "Women know better than all the foolish men do so they should just follow our orders without questioning." lol but i love the books, although they do get as little slow at times.
