The Witch

Aired: March 17, 1997
Writer: Dana Reston
Director: Stephen Crag

Best quotes:

- Xander: "I laugh in the face of danger. Then I hide until it goes away."

- Xander: "For I am Xander, King of cretins. May all lesser cretins bow before me. "

References:

- "Just look at that Amber. Who does she think she is, a Laker Girl?" The Laker Girls are the cheerleaders for the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team. Charisma Carpenter was a San Diego Chargers Girl cheerleader in 1991.

- "Oh, how I hate this, let me count the ways." Amy is misquoting the most famous of Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Sonnets from the Portuguese, a collection of love poems she wrote for her husband Robert, a fellow poet.

- "So mommie dearest is really... Mommie Dearest." Mommie Dearest was a 1981 film version of Christina Crawford's autobiography.

- "The test was positive. She's our Sabrina." Sabrina is the name of a teenage witch who has appeared in Archie comics since the 1960s.

- "Macho Man" The morning the bloodstone vengeance spell takes effect, Buffy bops into the kitchen singing "Macho Man," the first U.S. hit for the Village People in 1978.

Bloopers:

- Amy's mom's trophy has her name on it as "Catherine Madison," which seems to convince Buffy that it's really Amy's mom, implying that Amy's last name is Madison. This is further borne out by Giles, who addresses Amy's mother as "Mrs. Madison." But Amy says that her parents got married right after high school graduation, which means that when her mother won the cheerleading trophy she would still have gone by her maiden name.

- While Buffy, Willow and Xander are in the lab making the witch revealing potion, Willow pours the finalized mixture into a test tube and fills the tube to the top. When Buffy takes the tube, it is barely a 1/4 full.

Soundtrack:

- "Twilight Zone" - 2 Unlimited

- "Macho Man" - Sarah Michelle Gellar

- "Count the Time" - Humbucker

Trivia:

- Joss planned his episodes seasons in advance and there is a possible allusion to Spike in this episode. Xander says "drive it through my head like a railroad spike" which is how Spike killed the people who mocked his poetry.

- Cordelia mentions another Cheerleader-wannabe, Amber, in the episode. Amy comments that Amber was trained by Benson. Amber Benson will later star in the show as Tara.

That's really true? 😛 Not that Amber Benson would star in the show. That I have covered. 😉
