The Witches Hammer. part 2

Giles sat in his chair deep in thought, so deep he failed to hear
Buffy and Willow enter the room and sit down.
As his thoughts cleared he noticed them, "Willow? Buffy?" He
looked to the door then back to them, "Have you been here long?
I hope you are both well?" he asked.
"Giles? are you glad she is back?" asked Willow, "Surprised
maybe?"
Giles leant forward, then knelt on his right knee, he held Buffy's
hands gently within his own, "I am glad you to see you are back
here again at last."

"It hasn't been that long," said Willow, "Only a hundred and forty
seven days." Buffy smiled to Giles, "I remember seeing you, we
were listening to the song Jerusalem." Giles nodded, a small smile
lit up his face, "In St. Mary's church on the banks of Lake
Windermere."
"There isn't a Lake Windermere near here, when did you meet
him Buffy?" "When I was dead Willow, when I was dead."
"But, you were? We buried you! You were here, and there, how?"

"Willow, the girl you came here with, you see her as your friend,
and I believe she see's you as a friend. To me she is the one I
must protect, even now I am still learning what that means, what
a chosen one entails."

"Willow while I was dead this time, I was shown what I am, who
chose me and who is here to help me, as a chosen one."
"You are a slayer Buffy, a vampire slayer," said Willow.
"And that is what I thought, all I thought. I used to say this
occasionally," Giles looked to them, "Okay quite often, it was
"˜ In every generation there is a chosen one '. I always thought it
was part of her being a slayer.

It goes on to say she is a vampire slayer. It states that on two
lines, I now understand that those lines were meant to be read
separately," said Giles.
"I think we both learned a bit more," said Buffy.
"Er Buffy, you both learnt? when?" asked Willow.
"When I was dead, didn't I say?" asked Buffy. "You know, I
always thought that the one in every generation was about the
vampire slayer being a chosen one," said Giles.

"So what does it mean then?" asked Willow.
"No!, wait a minute!, I know this." "No Buffy, you may remember
this but you do not know this. You came to me when you were
dead, that meeting we had in your house, that was Willow's and
Quentin spirits that were there, not them. See Willow, the saying
is not of the slayer being the chosen one, it is about the one born
into every generation who is a chosen one."

"He is right Willow, there can be more than one slayer born into
each generation but there can be only one chosen one," said Buffy
"Willow think of Kendra and Faith, they were here when Buffy
was still alive, they were both vampire slayers but neither of them
were chosen ones. Buffy is the chosen one," said Giles. Willow
looked to Giles.

"Yes each slayer will be a leader in the fight against evil, that is
what she was chosen to do." "Willow, look at me," said Buffy,
"I do lead the fight against the forces of evil, but that is because
I am a slayer. I am not sure who chose me to be a vampire slayer
but I think I know of the being the chosen one, of who did this.
Some-one or something picked me to be it."
"What do you mean?" asked Willow.

"It is me, in this generation I am the chosen one," said Buffy.
"It is like this Willow, every slayer has a leader. Admittedly I
thought the watcher was that leader, but I and the rest of the
council, we were wrong, we now know this. If there should be a
thousand slayers and each of those slayers has ten who help her,
in the event of a crisis the person they will all see as their leader
is the chosen one."

"Right, not because they chose her, because some-one else did!
Who chose her?" asked Willow.
"Difficult to answer that one Willo......" "Guys! I have just thought
of something," said Buffy, "Places I have been that I could see in."
"That could be because you are the slayer," said Giles.
"Willow? places that you were in, um, the crypt!, when The Master
was in the church. When you first went in the crypt, could you
see much?"

"No, I couldn't. That's odd, as soon as you came in I do remember
it getting brighter, ohh! A crypt in the middle of a cemetery at
night, it should have been pitch black in there. So who-ever made
you the chosen one can make the darkness become light."
"And that some-one is not bound, hindered or restricted to one
belief, above all? Any human belief be that Anglican, Methodist,
Catholic, Muslim, Buddhist, any of them."

"Did Xander ever tell you what happened to me in the church that
The Master was in?" asked Buffy. "About your dying, yes. That is
a thought, when he revived you." Willow inhaled deeply, "When
he revived you, you were ready to face The Master again, straight-
away," said Willow. Buffy looked beyond Willows eyes.
"It is like some-one en-route to those pearly gates, to the tunnel
with the light at its end, that personage told me to come back, I
was told that I was still needed."

Willow stood just outside Giles' door, in the open. She gazed at
the stars that lit the night sky, hearing Buffy walk to her. "What
do you think Will?" asked Buffy.
"So it could be that you were chosen by, well a higher being."
"True," replied Buffy.
"And here I am, I do magic Buffy, how could he help me, that is
if it is a he?"
"What are you getting at Will?" asked Buffy.

"Oh, I think I know what she means."
The friends turn to Giles. "Willow seems to think that who-ever it
is should condemn her for being a witch.
"So why doesn't he?"
"Willow, what do I do? I teach her about demons, witchcraft and
the like," said Giles

"You and Giles help me, there has been no requests to save you a
good seat in the afterlife. Maybe there is a happiness here, maybe
he or she knows that you want to help me, ever thought of that?"
