Time line: Not long after the portal.
"Buffy! where are you?" called Giles. Coming downstairs from the
bathroom Buffy entered the room. "Just putting a splash of water
on my face, what is it?"
"I just called my number, I am awaiting news of a book. There was
a message from Quentin, he wants to see me." "Not him again, I
thought he would leave us alone."
"So did I; he sounded concerned, almost troubled, we should meet
him," said Giles. "Ok, when?" asked Buffy.
"Tomorrow, in the evening, can we use your house Buffy?"
"Just the three of us?" "No, he said, he specifically wants Willow
to be there," said Giles.
Buffy, Willow and Giles sat in the chairs waiting for Quentin to
call them into the dining room. Sat at the table Quentin had located
several books for the three of them. He looked at the table, at the
books set for each person, being content with what he had done he
went to the doorway. "Mr. Giles? can you come in please, and er,
bring them with you please."
Going to the far side of the table he asked Buffy to sit at the head of
the table, for Willow to sit opposite her. He directed Mr. Giles to the
chair facing him. "So? what do you want to see us for, considering
the situation, neither Buffy or myself are comfortable here. I know
Willow shares our thoughts on the matter."
"That I can understand," said Quentin, "What I have here I found by
accident. It isn't about the council, more about its origins. There is
another consequence though, that is why I wanted to be here."
Stopping what he was saying; opening a large leather bound book.
"Now to begin with, I was researching some new theories about
the existence of The Priory of Sion."
"No, that was just a figment of some-ones over active imagination,
just taken, pretended to be truth," said Giles. "Yes, I do agree, as we
know it but the Priory was the leading reason for the Council of
Nicaea, that we know was a fact," said Quentin.
"Oh dear, I think I know where this is coming from, not sure about
where it is going though, or why," said Willow. "You have all lost
me," remarked Buffy. "That is not surprising, you should listen
though. This may have more to do with why you are here, not who
you are, more of what you are," added Quentin.
Giles stood, then walking about the room, "The Council of Nicaea
was brought about by Constantine, to protect himself and to stop the
growing unrest in Rome. He could see that Christianity would take
control, he merely wanted to be seen to be on that side."
"He was a Christian, why wouldn't he want Christianity to rule
over the pagan beliefs." "Yes Willow, how-ever the history books
say that Constantine died a Christian, the meeting he called, that
was when he was a pagan."
"Why do that? a pagan wanting his beliefs to be crushed?"
asked Willow. "You are not reading that the right way,
Constantine was an Emperor, a great Emperor. To be known as
great, he would need to put his work before himself."
He faced Willow and Buffy, "Do either of you know of the witches
hammer?" asked Quentin, "Mr Giles?" "Yes, the witches hammer
said to be of The Malleus Maleficarum. Some say it must have been
written with knowledge of the Great Grimoire." "Mere theory Mr.
Giles, mere theory. If you want mere theory though, try this. That
book was written in a time where male's were stated to be the
rulers. The book though; the hammer? should the hammer be seen
as an implement for creating, or maybe changing what we believe,
other than something to knock in nails."
"What are you leading to?" asked Giles. "All in good time, all in
good time Mr. Giles. Maleficarum?, considering what I am leading
to if the real name was used which started Female! the second part
of the name was originally two words: fact and form. A male
dominated world? A book named The Malleus Fe Malefactform?
the title appeared as we know it."
"Oh dear?" stated Giles, looking to Quentin, "This isn't about a
woman being in charge, more, it is about a woman being called
to be a leader." "I believe Mr Giles is beginning to see the
beginning," said Quentin. "Try seeing my thoughts on what was,
or what is, or could be? maybe should be." "Is this all about Mary
Magdalene?" asked Buffy. "No miss Summers, she may be the
tip of the iceberg though."
"Laying our cards on the table," Willow looked at the table, "so
to speak. Given that you are here, given that.. .." She looks to
Buffy, "Oh my!" "Mr. Giles, if this was cricket I would say a new
batsman just come to the crease, the eleventh man," said Quentin.
"Or a new bowler," replied Giles. "What would Freud have said?
what would he want us to think? What if the batsman and the
bowler are just pawns? then the object of their desire (to win)
would rest with what is done with the new ball," stated Buffy.
Giles looked at the door, "It isn't that the door moves one way or
another, the door is just a door. It is the door frame that governs
if the door is open or closed," Giles faced Quentin, "The time is
right for you to unlock the door."
"Agreed, The Priory of Sion; Sunnydale is on? be it on earth or on
the hellmouth. Retain that of Mary Magdalene, though not as the
person more of what she was. Why was the meeting was called the
Council of Nicaea not Priory or even the meeting of Nicaea? Was
he the greatest prophet that ever lived? To shed the light on the
ground where evil comes from? was that ground in a dale? said of
and named fifteen hundred years before it was born, Sunnydale?
So that meeting of Nicaea was said to be of Christianity."
Giles sat down, holding his head in his hands, "That meeting
wasn't called to promote Christianity, it was called to stop the
spread of evil, how to stop the spread of evil, who should lead the
way to stop the spread of evil." "Yes Mr. Giles, the reason for the
name, the council, was other than their name, the Priory. To be
seen as different, only who would be there to see its rising. Those
who were picked, or chosen to see, were known as watchers, the
start of The Watchers Council."
"That cannot be right," said Willow, "The slayers were said to be
around long before then." "The portal Will," said Buffy, "I went
back to she who was the first slayer. What if she wasn't the first
slayer. The portal took me to then, what if she was something
else? When I was there the spirit of a demon tried to enter me,
did I refuse it or was something there already, something other
than evil?"
"I always thought that was wrong," said Willow, "That exchange
why send something evil to us? If as you say evil was already there
then your going there made a balance, theon coming here only
created an imbalance." "Unless, if the first created a way to remove
the slayer, to bring another demon," Giles quickly stood, "Without a
slayer to lead us? what would we have done?"
"Who then? those who were known as the Priory? who were they?"
asked Buffy.
