The Worst Character Speech?

Whose speech made you cringe the most?

Any S7 Buffy speech that isn't the 'I'm standing at the mouth of hell' is the clear winner.
After that one- which was by far her best- Buffy just phoned them in, including the Chosen one.

I don't think Buffy/SMG ever phoned any speech in. If the speech didn't work then I think it was more down to the writing of it.

I chose Xander's to her in Into the Woods. I just thought it was so mis-guided and made Buffy feel like she was in the wrong with the whole Riley thing, when in reality he was the one who cocked up twice. And it was Xander at his preachy worse.

Some of the ones from Angel I don't remember so will have to revisit them. But the one from Kate to her father in Sense and Senseitivty should have made the list for sure.

I hated the yellow crayon speech. It was the most cringe worthy to me. The rest were eye-rolls but the yellow crayon was cringe worthy to me. It's just so damn cheesy.

I suppose some people like that sort of thing but generally I think not.

Even the show itself lampshaded it by saying that 'everyone' was getting tired of Buffy's rambling speeches by 'Storyteller'- even Buffy herself. She got progressivly worse from 'Bring On The Night' onwards and peaked in 'Empty Places'. Then she started getting a little better from 'Touched' onwards.

Also the Buffy 'Get It Done' speech was just..urgh. Somebody should've slapped Buffy for that. 😡

But then part of that might just be you taking against Buffy as a character or the content of the speech. I love the scene you speak of from Empty Places, I think the acting and flow of the scene is great. Its a very exciting and dramatic scene.

Nah, I can separate my dislike of a character from their speeches- hence saying that Buffy's BotN speech was so brilliant that it gave me shivers, it was possible the best not-Xander speech of that season.

I love the scene you speak of from Empty Places, I think the acting and flow of the scene is great. Its a very exciting and dramatic scene.

Empty Places is a great episode imv, and the end scene is one of the best parts- very dramatic like you say, but Buffy's speechifying is mostly frustrating and speaks to a lack of character growth.

From that particular list I might pick Dark Willow, I remember rolling my eyes at that.
Not from the list Buffy's final season 6 speech. Or her Chosen-speech. Just terrible. I have to fast forward through them.

I picked Angel's speech to Connor in Deep Down, because I literally rewatched that episode this morning and it's such a terrible speech.

I hate it when my only son, who happens to have special skills, tries to kill me. Problem is, I've sent him to his room so many times in the past I need something new, so I resort to the "get out of my house" line. Because sleeping on the streets where anyone could find him is so much better than having him around the house where I can keep an eye on the little scamp. 🙄

I make sure I tell him I love him though, because that makes all the difference.

YES! I can't stand that speech; 'Hey, I know you screwed up and I did tell you I loved you when you were putting me in the ocean but now I'm annoyed so you can naff off.

Made all the worse by the fact that he pretty much forgives Wesley the very next episode.

I loathe Groo - in fact I fast forward through as many of his scenes as I can. That said, Xander's speech really pisses me off. Whe the hell does he think he is, and what gave him the right to decide who and how Buffy should love.

I love the yellow crayon speech.
I hated most of Buffy's speeches in season 7. Some of Spike's kinda irritated me too. Some of Dark Willow's dialogue was cringe worthy, but I still love her, and I actually love when she harshes Buffy and Dawn.

The 'everybody sucks but me' speech from Get It Done' because of what it represented as much as for the actual content.
Buffy would reject everything that had made her effective up until this point- her friends and allies, her heart, her bravery- and start acting like the cold, unlikable 'General Buffy.'

Buffy's rant in Get It Done calling Chloe weak was pretty shady. I did not like her in that moment.
