The worst characters in Buffy / Angel

What are the most annoying charakteres in the too series? The worst of the worst.

For me the highlights or better lowlights in this case 😉 : Adam and Connor.

Adam was a lame evil Boss. So uncool, that even unable to make it into the last Episode of the season. What a walking freakshow joke.
And Connor is just the prototype of an annoying brat. Cant stand that Charakter + actor. 😉

Harmony. There are people here who know how much I loath the character and actress. I can't find one redeeming quality about either of them. My worst fan experience ever.

Spike. I hate everything about him. But I do have a lot of respect for James Marsters.

I don't like Willow, I think she's not a nice person, but there are things that I can admit to liking. Can't speak for Alyson Hannigan with this one.

I don't know...the characters that actually matter seem all fine to me. Some of the villains could use more depth - Warren and Caleb are probably the worst offenders, Ethan, Amy and Maggie Walsh as well. Other than that? Riley's friends, Forest and Graham - they just suck. The potentials largely mend into this blob that's devoid of any personality but who cares? They're irrelevant. That's about it, really.

In regards to annoying characters, there are so many. Xander Xander Xander.
Also season 5 Buffy when she suddenly, out of the blue, starts saying "m'kay" instead of OK (and mostly to Dawn). Must be some weird, implanted big sister memory thing.

I've talked about this many times, it's probably all over this place.

I went to a convention about 5 or so years ago. The Guests were James Marsters, Nicholas Brandan, James Leary, Mark Lutz and Mercedes McNab. James Marsters had recently been involved in a bad accident on the set of Caprica - one wrong move and he would have had major, possibly life changing injuries. He couldn't sit down for the whole weekend, he spent the entire time - all of his talks - standing up or walking around. The only time he 'sat' was when he was signing autographs, and even then, he was lying on his stomach on a table, with a mound of pillows under his arms to prop him up. We weren't allowed to touch him during our photo ops - he had to be the one to approach us, put his arms around us, make the contact, whatever. Despite this, it's one of my all time favorite photos from cons.

In contrast, Mercedes spent the whole weekend like she didn't want to be there. She refused to answer questions during her guest talk, was talking to a friends on the phone during her autograph line and didn't make eye contact with anyone. During our photo ops, she said she didn't want to be touched or spoken to and didn't smile at all. It's a horrendously depressing photo.

I understand that this is a job to these people, but they are still working, they are being paid to be there. I also understand that people can have bad or off days, but I just found Mercedes to be rude. If James Marsters could give an epic fan experience like that while seriously injured, it's disappointing and upsetting that Mercedes didn't want to make the effort to be approachable or even polite. It's her prerogative to attend these conventions or not, she's not obligated. If she doesn't like them or doesn't want to interact with fans, then she doesn't have to. She made it seem like she was being forced to be there and had to put up with all the crazy fans.

Oh my gawd. That's actually hilariously self-important and big-headed of her considering she is practically a nobody in the acting world. Have some modesty, woman. How sad. I think that's kind of changed my opinion of her, even though I do enjoy Harmony (sometimes!).

Well, personally it warms my heart. I mean, if you find the second most important character in the series annoying, well, that's a lot of delicious annoyance during re-watches. Literally tens of hours. Ha Ha Ha!

There's only one terrible character in the entire Buffyverse, and his name is Xander. Any character can be annoying and unlikable to some or many but if they are not one of the main characters of the show and their screen time is little then he/she is not a problem, xander on the other hand was a main character an a big focus of the show. The character is annoying and despicable to the max.

I don't dislike any major character. Those I don't like are the ones that really don't matter – the likes of Forest, Graham, Potentials, and probably the ones I don't remember enough to list them here...

I like Harmony, I like Andrew, both supporting characters that fit well on the show and, for me, they got the right amount of screen time.

I've just remembered two charactes that I really don't like: Justine and Kate, from Angel!

Didn't like:

The Anointed One - Boring. Thank God, Spike and Dru showed up when they did, or else he would have been the Big Bad of Season Two.

Graham - Boring.

Kate Lockley - I hated how she never trusted Angel even after the many times he saved her ungrateful ass. Oh, and how she blames everything on him just because her father died in his presence. Get over it.

Justine Cooper - OK, your sister got killed by vamps, that's a pretty good reason to want to work for a vampire hunter. To continue to torment Angel even after said vampire hunter abandoned her by escaping into a hell dimension, not cool. Get over it. I actually found myself hoping she would die, so of course I was pissed when all Wes did was leave her chained up with the key nearby.

Jasmine - Gina Torres is a very good actress, but the character and how she came to be was a total mess. Oh yeah, and while we're at it, Season 4 Cordelia.

Connor - If he were played like his S5 counterpart from the beginning, I would've sympathized with him a lot more. Instead he was a whiny little emo punk from Day One.

Knox - What he did to Fred was not cool.

I take annoying and worst to be separate categories. I'll just stick with the Buffy side of the verse for now. In The worst category I place characters that have either been wasted or add little value.

The Anointed One - Just there really. Never posed a threat or had his own character. Good exit though.

Forest & Graham - both lacked charisma. Needed a bit more screen time and perhaps it would have been a better dynamic with Riley torn between them and the scoobies.

Potentials - would have been better to have a few cool potentials that we cared for rather than an unlimited supply of either bland or irritating ones.

Anya - I think Anya is the worst of the main Buffy cast. It's more that I think the character potential was wasted. She was in the show for years and had a unique back story but she was mostly used just for laughs.

Then onto annoying.

Angel - he's a fantastic character and most of the time I like him but he annoys the hell out of me sometimes. The decisions he makes just make you want to bang your head against a wall.

Joyce - I just don't like her for the most part. That's different from being a bad character because I think she adds to the show and is very believable. I just side with Buffy most of the time they fight. Guess I think she's pretty lousy as a parent a lot of the time.

Anya - I think Anya is the worst of the main Buffy cast. It's more that I think the character potential was wasted. She was in the show for years and had a unique back story but she was mostly used just for laughs.

I like Anya, but yes they should have fleshed her out more. 1000 years of being a vengeance demon and we didn't get to see or hear about any of it until S6. When she got her powers back was when she was at her coolest; her fight with Buffy in 'Selfless' was awesome, and she really did step up to the plate to help at the end of S6.

Villains - not that many who really do much for me - but Adam and Eve are the worst. Besides, that's fun to write! I think the mayor and Holtz were the most fleshed out.

As for cast - they all have flaws but some flaws annoy me more than others.

Xander bothers me most because he's a hypocrite, and because, until season 7, he refuses to grow up and take some responsibility. I just want to hit him upside the head so often. He's so selective in what he is willing to see and acknowledge. Like most of the characters, I kinda like him at first but he got on my nerves more and more. By the end of the show I just couldn't stand him! On the rewatches, I liked him even less.

Anya was a waste of a fantastic character idea, and I kinda think that was because they couldn't go into depth without making Xander see who she really was, and he was already a problem.

Riley annoys me for much the same reason - he blames other people for the choices he makes. There's a morality thing for me there, too. Buffy is the slayer, but she doesn't attack harmless demons, and she just kills the others. There's no imprisonment, torture, experiments - all that nazi crap. And the whole acting out and blaming Buffy just pisses me off.

Angelus is evil and enjoyable. Spike has a laundry list of things I would dislike in reality, and I really enjoy him too. Dru and Darla (Ats) are great. In fact, a lot of the characters I would really dislike in person, I love on the show. Lilah is excellent - she knows who she is and never makes excuses.

Angel can be a doofus, and then he can be scary focused and powerful. Cordy is fun - I really like how she evolved on Ats, both her caring and her snark, and then she left Pylea, and Groo came along.....and just bleh!

Gunn is good in theory, but I don't really feel it. Kate is a low rent Buffy wannabe.

Willow is realistic - I don't approve but I do understand her, and she does learn and grow. Besides, I really like her sense of humor, and her caring. Buffy - pretty much the same.

I love Giles - but season 7 pod!Giles, not so much. Early Giles - he is so wonderful that I have not the words to describe. I dreamed once that we were married, and it was a very nice dream. ASH is an amazing actor. So is Marsters - they never get predictable in their line readings - always fresh.

Wesley....Wesley is my complete package. I love Denisoff, and I love the entire Wesley arc. He gives me feels and more feels, and he can say more with a look than anyone who is not Wesley. In reality, I would be too intimidated to even talk to him.

In reality, I would love to have some tea with Tara, smoke some weed with Fred, and complain with Dawn.

I find Faith annoying. Probably the most unpopular opinion ever. Heh.

*Ahem* I politely disagree with the above asertion.
Faith is awesome and her redemption arc is a miracle of not having one wasted scene in it. Spike doesn't actually have a redeption arc- he has a love story, they are not the same thing. Watch Angel's show to see the difference.


As for my least favourite characters: Andrew and Anya probably. Funny only gets you so far as to ignoring a vacuous, unpleasent, morally bankrupt character who I wouldn't want to be around and yet am forced to watch.

Others who are less pervasive but still irritating for a variety of reasons. Harmony, Principal Wood ("okay, you're chief character motivation is 'smug'- run with it"), Forrest, Groo, Soulled Spike (his appeal is a huge mystery to me)

Honestly, my least favorite is Warren, here's why:
*He wasn't a friend to Jonathan and Andrew, all he did was treat them like helpless minions.
*He murdered and raped people and never felt guilty about it or attempted at redeeming himself.

I was thinking of adding more reasons, but I'm pretty sure I made my point clear already...
