Were there episodes where when they ended, they left you with a big "WOW!!"?

What were those episodes? The ones that left you widely open eyed at the screen, mumbling to yourself "OMG OMG OMG!"

Not Fade Away- The more I think about it, the more I believe that this may be the best episode in the entire Whedonverse.

The Body (actually there were tons of tears--no "Wow")

OMWF --- The Kiss!!! I didn't know it was coming! I had no clue!! I squealed like a pig, I smiled, and my son and I were on Cloud 9!!!! Spuffygoodness!!!!!

Because I hadn't had quite as many spoilers on AtS as on Buffy, for me it was Darla's return in To Shanshu in LA, her death & re-siring at the end of The Trial, and the reveal of her pregnancy at the end of Heartthrob. Also, Willow's appearance at the end of There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb to inform Angel of Buffy's death.

The end of Once More, With Feeling--Spuffy kiss!

And how can anyone forget Giles' entrance in Two To Go? That has to be my all-time favorite last-scene-in-an-episode.

The Wish left me with a big wow. It was so randomly inserted into the season but so powerful. The climax and ending blew me away. Passion and Becoming Part 2 were also big wows. So intense and so emotional. I'd say Innocence too, but that was the first episode of Buffy I saw so I didn't see it in the context of the rest of the show and it was ages ago so I don't really remember my reaction. I also agree with Giles' appearance in Two To Go being amazing. And I found Normal Again very powerful. And Once More, With Feeling, of course. xD

I also felt pretty wowed by Who Are You the second time I saw it. It was pretty amazing, I thought.

Definately "The Gift"..... my mouth was open for the last 10 mins easily.... that last speech gets me everytime!!!

🙂

A few I can think of right now are...

- At the end of Sleeper when Giles gets an axe swung at him.

- At the end of Showtime when Buffy helps Spike out of the cave. That almost made me cry. Because at first I thought she was just The First again, but it was really her, and the way Spike looked at her, and the way Buffy looked back at him, it looked like she was about to cry too. 😱

ITA with both of these.
Out of My Mind, The Gift, Fool for Love, Becoming Part 1 and Becoming Part 2, Surprise and Once More, With Feeling

I think the end of season 2 is the big one for me.

The way it wasn't the happy ending, everything did not turn out alright.
Sure, she did save the world but it sure cost her.

I definitely had a - wow, that's great TV - moment after that episode.

We get something similar in season 5 I guess but by then it wasn't quite the same surprise as it was back in season 2 and therefor a bit smaller impact.

/SK

At the end of Touched when Faith and the Potentials find the bomb, and the show ends with us hearing the ticking. I'm sure when that first aired on TV, viewers were dieing to see what happened the next week. 😛

From Buffy:
The Body - First time I saw it I felt like I had been punched in the soul. It blew me away

Forever - A good continuation of The Body episode. The part that really impacted me was the ending, and there's this moment where Re-animated Joyce is knocking on the door and Buffy says "Mommy" in this childlike way. She's slayed many a vampire and demon and staved off quite a few apocalypses, but underneath that badass exterior she's just another scared kid who wants her mother. I just found it very moving.

From Angel:

Habeus Corpses - In previous episodes and seasons Wolfram and Hart were The bad guys you loved to hate. They made for a good rivalry with Angel Investigations, but they were never truly menacing more like a collective of Jerks and Snidely Whiplashes. Then along comes the beast this invincible unrelenting force and completely wipes the floor with W&H. It stunned me how creepy that episode was. They did an excellent job with the atmosphere in the W&H building.

Punched in the soul... A great way to describe it!
"The Witch", I never saw the twist coming, it was at that moment I knew Buffy was a special show

Giles in "Two to Go", "I would like to test that theory". I literally jumped off my seat the first time I watched that episode

"Hero", I miss Doyle so much 🙁

"A Hole in the World", Wesley holding Fred = tearjerker

Faith in Angel season 4....awesome!

Definitely agree about Passion, that's one of my favourite episode of the entire show.
Having just finished season 3 of my rewatch- Graduation day pt1 left me feeling like 'Wow' when buffy looks down over the edge when Faith jumps! That music ending and then the 'to be continued' - classic!

Another wow moment was in 'Consequences' - Faith 'I guess that means you have a job opening'

Brilliant!!!!!

🙂

Off the top of my head...

Becoming - Having Buffy have to kill Angel was definitely wow-inspiring.
OMWF - That kiss!! I didn't see it coming at all.
The Body - That whole ep gave me "wow face", but it was also sad face.
The Gift - It just proved that Buffy was everything a hero and slayer should be.
Two To Go - I always love bad-ass Giles!
Hero - I loved Doyle. I never thought Joss would kill off a main character so soon in the show. Dang, he's tricky!
There's No Place Like Plz Grb (or however that's spelled) - So much was said in the last few seconds with very few words.

Buffy:
"Hush" - Great episodes all around, and the Gentlemen scare me to this day.
"The Gift" - A perfect ending for the series. A perfect finale. If it had ended there I wouldn't have complained.

Angel:
"Five by Five"/"Sanctuary" - Faith's desperation for Angel to kill her was heart-wrenching. It was also the point where the series firmly separated itself from Buffy and proved it could stand on its own.
"Reunion" - Darla and Drusilla's rampage was brilliant, but it was Angel locking the Wolfram & Hart lawyers in the cellar with them that chilled me to the core.
"Not Fade Away" - The best series finale I've ever seen! Everyone got a proper sendoff. It was a fitting end for these character, going down fighting. Not giving up was the whole point of the series, to simplify a bit.

Seeing Red left me numb for days. And when I first saw it, it was still on the air, so I had to wait an entire week to see what happened. The Dark Willow arc, and of those left me wanting the next week to go by so fast...

Killed By Death terrifies me and I can't watch it before bed or I get nightmares.
