Did anybody else felt so sad for when Gio and Gunn's crew killed the Yarbnie demon in the sewers? I mean he was as harmless as Lorne was and they killed him in cold blood.

I think that was the whole point. It was to show just how far off the reservation Gunn's crew had gone without him.

Yes, Gunn was cold and closed off and a little ruthless before he met Angel and joined the team, but he was also a person, not just a soldier or a fighter. He was able to see when something was harmless, he was able to back off when he knew he should. Which is why he never really went after Angel in the first place; he was able to see that they were on the same side.

Without Gunn's leadership, the gang became killers rather than fighters, taking out anything that could be seen as different, whether they were harmless or not. And I think a large part of that was brought on by the fact that Gunn left them to go for for/with a vampire, they're supposed sworn enemy. They were angry and they took that anger out on the demon community, being more ruthless and bloodthirsty in their kills than they really needed to be.

So, yes, I felt really sorry for the demon. It upset me quite a bit.
