I just watched this eppie this morning. Does anyone else agree with me that Angel was unnecessarily mean to Riley??? I mean I like both characters, so nothing against Angel, but I thought he handled the meeting of Riley all wrong.

No way!! I think the whole situation got blown out of control. They were both as bad as each other. I'm so glad Angel kicked Riley's ass though. I loved the look Angel gave Riley when he was walking out of the room with Buffy, it looked so smug 🙂 And it was so sweet when he said 'And Riley....I don't like him'.....AWWW.....he's such a love 🙂

I agree so much I loved that smug look he gave Riley.
I voted no..it was both there own faults, Angel was the jealous ex and Riley was the jealous boyfriend...I so loved it when he kicked Riley ass!..

;) :) :D
I think they both could have handled it better, but the testosterone kicked in, and once one got belligerant the other one couldn't back down, resulting in fun for all viewers. I think they were both at fault, but Buffy did a good job of defusing the situation.

I voted no, but I could've easily gone both ways. Yes I think Angel was harsh, but Riley wasn't an angel (ha, ha!). I think it was the jealous ex, vs. the jealous boyfriend and tempers were flaring. But I loved that fight scene! It gave me warm fuzzies!

No! I dont' think he was really mean. In my opinion he should have been meaner :laugh1:  Angel should have just beaten the crap out of Rile IMO :laugh1:

a big yep

I thought it was a little out of character for Angel to act in the way that he did. All he would have had to have said was "calm down, I'm here to see Buffy...and these guys attacked me". That could have diffused the whole situation. Instead he's all like "Riiiiley Finn....."in a very ominous voice...yeah...that's like trying to put out some flames with gasoline. That being said...I think that Riley could have come at things a little more friendly like as well.

I voted no. He may have overreacted a little, but almost anyone in that situation would. I don't think he was unecessarily mean. Riley didn't react any better.

I voted no. I liked they way Angel was acting. And a good ass kicking is always fun to see...mostly when Angel does it!

I also voted no. The whole thing was funny and it entertained me. Besides the whole thing was blown way out of proportion.

Me too. I no-ed as well.

Angel still wasn't over Buffy, and he was just majorly slapped in the face in L.A. by her telling him she loved Riley. It was just, a jealous ex thing. It happens in real life, LOL.

I just thought it was funny.

Kinda cute.

But the best part was when he told Buffy he didn't like him, and she said "Thank-you."

LOL

I would have been surprised if Angel and Riley had behaved any differently to tell you the truth. I mean haven't we all experienced that pang of jealousy when meeting our ex's new S.O.'s?

i don't think at all that he was too mean. come on, riley was playing on his turf, he was with his girl, he was now the man in the life of the woman he loved. knowing angel and especially when-buffy's-concerned angel.... i'd say he was too gentle lmao.

Angel let her go, simple as that. He knew he couldn't give her the life she would want down the road and he did the right thing by letting her go. A real man would not try to stand in the way of her blooming relationship with Riley. He should accept the fact that she was happy (for the time being atleast) and not try to beat on the man she loved (at the time being atleast).

and he wasn't standing in the way of her happiness, not for one second. he didn't do anything to get between riley and her, and he had to do so littl, if he wanted to. but he didn't do anything. so i don't know how you understood that he did from the episode (assuming i read your post right).

He knew who Riley was and he tried to beat up Buffy's new boyfriend...I don't think he would have "had to do so little" to get in between them. Buffy made it very clear to Angel in regards to her feelings for Riley and at that point she had begun to understand why Angel had did what he did at the end of S3. Even after Angel had made it clear that he wanted her back at the end of S7 (while he was still mourning Cordelia's death), she still didn't run back to him and went after the immortal. Buffy had moved on.

when buffy told angel of her "feelings" for riley, she was lying, and that's common knowledge.
and as for moving on - they both moved on and who ever said they couldn't? they were growing as people, as individuals, they led separate lives, who cares as long as they had a joint future in mind? and i'm the world's biggest b/a and you'll still hear that from me - too many good storylines would be missed if they stayed together. for the sake of both shows, and themselves, it's good they split for the time being. they still loved each other, they still saw a joint future, even after years apart, so what is so wrong in leading saparate lives for a while? i'm not saying in real life that's the way to go, but for these two individuals, it *was* the way to go.

I dont think she was lying about her feelings, its what she truly thought at the time, ofcourse she still had emotions for Angel as we saw when she found Faith in his arms in 5x5. But BUffy just wanted to try something new finally since she moved on from Angel for that moment, the same as when Angel moved away from her and onto other women.

Buffy was trying to find happiness in a normal joe but as she found out in the end, she just isnt destined to wind up with one, she needs someone who is on her level of streangth and all that stuff, but ofcourse Buffy found her way back to Angel when he showed up at Joyces funeral.

I always wondered how things wouldve gone if he had shown up but Buffy was still dating Riley.
