Did anyone else find this an...odd episode? I mean, it's enjoyable and all but I've seen it three times and I can never feel like I'm watching normal Buffy when I see it, and I can't quite put my finger on it.
I do like the episode, it's nice to see Xander in the limelight and he's funny. But then the whole B story, with the gang preparing for some huge apocalypse or something, it seems odd to see THAT the small story while the main story is Xander hanging out with corpses.
And then the scene in the middle with Buffy and Angel being all overdramatic and emotional made me laugh because it was so out of place. I mean, I'm sure that was done intentionally, maybe the show wanted to laugh at itself or something, but still...it's just weird to see.
And did anyone else think it seemed weird how suddenly the gang is all trying to keep Xander out of their "adventure"? I mean, for two and a half seasons now he's been going along with them and not serving much of a purpose...so why now? It seemed like it was purely a device used to give Xander his own episode or something.
And Cordelia also seemed slightly out of character, she's always been a little bitchy but her trying super hard to hurt Xander now and point out his faults was unbelievable to me. And I don't even buy it being because she's still hurt over him cheating on her with Willow. She would have done that sooner I think. And then she even bragged about how mean she was, which was also somewhat stupid, I don't think she's EVER done that before. It felt like the writer of those scenes was completely new to Buffy and didn't know quite how to handle the character.
