i was just wondering what are the themes in buffy.
obviously supernatural but are there any others?

How about womanhood, power, loneliness, friendship, self made family, romance, sexual exploration, the coming of age that many characters experienced, finding yourself....just to name a few.

Power, and the need for control

The evolution, and cycle of things

The obscure objectives of higher powers (mystic, or political), and the questionable practices to achieve them

Hope in the face of hopeless situations. The establishment of priorities in reaction to those situations, and the reliance of trust in the smaller group.

The indestructible nature of the human essence.

Yee gods, lots n lots of story line stuff, so I got out an old dictionary which states that a theme is ' subject on which one speaks, writes, or thinks.'
To me that would indicate the overlying concept, which as 'StuckinTraffic' stated is Good vs Evil. All else would appear to be part of the story line.

Good vs Evil is one of the subjects on which the author(s) of Buffy speak, but it's far from the only one. The definition you brought up doesn't say there can only be one theme. In a short story of only one page, an author might choose to address one single issue. But if a long running series like Buffy came down to Good vs Evil in every single season, every single episode, every single scene, my bet is, it'd be pretty dull.

Naturally, some themes are more important than others, and the Good vs Evil theme 'StuckinTraffic' mentioned is an important one, although I personally think it's not addressed nearly much as Feminism.

And of course, all themes are related to the story lines. That's pretty much the idea behind them. This rings true for all themes, especially Good vs Evil.
