[Theory] Season 9 and Dawn. (No Spoilers Plz)

Ok so first I just wanna say I'm only up to the third Volume of season 9 (Guarded) and I finished that, but I was thinking about the whole Seed of Magic thing and cross refrencing it with Angel + Faith (Family Reunion) How Connor's memories of his 'Stand-In' Family began to fade until they were completely gone.

Do you guys think the same could happen with the memories the Monks created in Season 5 of Dawn? And like-wise is it possible that Dawn could potentially revert back to the green ball of energy that she was before the Monk's made her human?

Again this is just a theory, I wait for the volumes to come out to read them so if you guys could keep it non-spoilery for me that'd be great. Other than that let me know what you guys think.

Uh, I don't really know how to answer this without revealing massive spoilers, lol.

What I will say is that everything that's happening with Dawn - if it IS related to the Seed Breakage - why is it happening NOW?!

The Seed was broken MONTHS ago, and straight away, anything that was the result of a spell or something that needed access to this dimension ended immediately - as evidenced by Warren collapsing in a puddle of goo - which, ew - and the vampires being unable to sire properly anymore, and Willow crashed to the earth.

If Dawn's problems are related to the lack of magic, it shouldn't have taken this long to surface. Like everything else, it should have happened right away.

Along the same lines with Connor's fake memories fading away slow at first until they were gone completely, maybe Dawn's fake memories would fade as well. But the Monks had to alter the minds of every actual person Dawn would have ever come into contact with. So based on that maybe it takes longer for those memories to fade, or it starts with people Dawn barely had contact with forgetting first and eventually Buffy will even begin to forget.

As far as Dawn not just reverting back to energy right away, I'm not sure. Maybe we'll finally get to know if Dawn is still 'A Key'. I think the Scoobies just assumed after Glory's plans were foiled that Dawn just became human. I'd like to see the comics explore that.

I'm pretty excited to read the next volume now more than ever, knowing that the comics are developing a story for Dawn along similar lines to what I was thinking. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

All of that would have to depend on just how powerful a spell was required to convert the Key into human form and create memories to explain away its sudden appearance. Assume that the spell was of sufficient power, and that it was enhanced by the Key's own magical energy, and you might indeed have a spell that could be self sustaining for months, or even years, like a battery running without being recharged. It doesn't just suddenly shut off, it gradually runs down over a period of time.

The question that this brings up, drifting slightly away from the specific subject of this thread, is that, if such a thing WERE to happen to Dawn, how would it effect all of the other magically influenced events and conditions in the Buffyverse, such as Angel's and Spike's souls, Connor's existence, the army of Slayers, and Buffy's very life, since magic was used to bring about each and every one of those things?

We could be facing the beginning of the end of the world as Buffy knows it.

At the time S9 began, the theory was that spells that had already been cast were safe, as they were already 'real' and magic wasn't being used to sustain it. This included the Scythe activated Slayers, Spike and Angel's souls, Buffy being alive, Connor's memories and people's memories of him, and Dawn.

This was further 'proven' by Warren's 'death', which was seen to mean that Amy was actively sustain him with her own power, like a battery.

But now we're learning that that might not be true? Connor's losing his memories of his fake family, which presumably means that other peoples memories of him are returning as well, or at least they should be. But this this SHOULD NOT be limited to Connor, and, if this is what's happening to her, Dawn. They were spells that were cast and finished, having done what they were supposed to do, like returning a soul or activating a bunch of Potentials. Portals should be opening that were closed with magic, Buffy should be returned to her 'heaven', Angelus and Spike should be wreaking havoc.

I don't like how these writers are picking and choosing, because their choices don't make sense, at least not to me.

I know it doesn't serve as any sort of comfort, but Joss has said on several occasions that he has no problem with arbitrarily changing something if it interferes with his current idea for a story line. He might have decided at some point that he now wants things to shoot off in another direction, contrary to what he set up previously. He's already eliminated the chain of events that brought about Fray's time line, while assuring us that Fray and her world still exist. If he can do that, he can do just about whatever he wants. After all, it's his universe. All that we can do is stand, watching and confused, while he basically rewrites the story of Buffy and all of her friends.

It does get dern confusing, though.
