I just started re-watching the "Highlander"TV series, and I was wondering whether anyone else here liked the show. It's confusing at first, if you're only familiar with the movie franchise, because in the series, the Game is still going strong, with Immortals popping up all over the place (I think that at one time, the producers of the show explained it by saying that the TV series was a different reality from the movies)
 
No, never seen it, I know it is on the horror channel all the time so I might give it a go one time, can't be any worse than the films😉

Just imagine everything that happened in the original "Highlander" movie happening except for the fact that Connor and the Kurgen were not the last two Immortals, and Connor didn't receive the Quickening. Then accept the fact that there were both men and women Immortals. That's where the TV series comes in.
 
I loved the show, I was a huge Methos fan. I miss it - Highlander hasn't been on TV for years, and I don't have the DVDs; they weren't available when I wanted, then they were but I didn't have money, then I forgot about them. I have all seasons on VHS (taped from TV, except S4) and I can't watch them... Great show.

The original movie is one of my all-time favorites. It's a brilliant movie.

I have somehow not managed to watch the show though...
Seen a few episode when it aired here in Sweden many years ago and I guess I liked it, can't remember much to be honest.
Really need to watch it properly.

I can see it maybe working better in serial format. The first film was just a shambling mess, not really a big Christopher Lambert fan, and Connery's character was absurd. The sequels were just cheap made for Video movies.

Oh, so nice of you remember me of that trash... I had completely forgotten about it. How can someone do this to his own franchise? 😡 And some of us complain about BtVS Season 8...
 
But didn't the movies come first? I might be remembering that wrong. In which case from what some of you are saying it sounds like the follow on by which I mean the TV series actually improved on the original source.

For me, it definitively improved, and then was totally trashed in the big screen (Endgame was passable for me).

There was the first movie, Highlander (1986), with Christopher Lambert. Then there was a couple of horrible movies (1991 The Quickening and 1994 The Sorcerer), then the show (1992), then a movie with the two Highlanders (Christopher Lambert and Adrian Paul, 2000 Endgame), and then the horrible movie with TV show characters only (2007 The Source)

You forgot to mention "Highlander: The Raven," the one season spinoff of "Highlander," focused on Amanda, a semi-regular on the original series. Unfortunately, the news about Elizabeth Gracen's affair with Bill Clinton came out about the same time, so, between that and a basically poor story line and weak characters, the show folded after about a dozen episodes.

It's a common belief among fans of the original show, myself included, that a show featuring Paul Wingfield's Methos would have been much more successful.

Much better, imagine how many stories could have been told about 5000 year-old Methos... I liked The Raven, but it wasn't nearly as good as Highlander. I loved the flashbacks, History!
