I'm about to start re-watching the "Highlander" series, and I was just wondering how many fans of the show and/or the series there were here, and what do you think about the reboot "Highlander" movie as opposed to the new "Buffy" movie.

I got hooked on "Highlander" from Lambert's first movie. Hated both versions of No 2, found No 3 barely tolerable, loved the entire series, enjoyed No 4, and absolutely HATED No 5, which is my nomination for the "Worst Movie Of All Time" award, even worse than "Night Of The Lepus," regretted the fact that Amanda got the spinoff instead of Methos, and thought that Duncan and Amanda were the hottest couple on TV until I saw Buffy and Spike together.

The first fan fiction that I ever wrote (which is safely stored away, and will never see the light of day again) was a "Chosen/Not Fade Away" tie in with Duncan, Methos, and two other Immortals helping bail Angel and his crew out in that alley in "Not Fade Away."

Oh, and I've got two versions of Duncan's sword, one Stainless Steel (Marto) from when the series was on, and a new carbon steel version that I have sharpened enough to take heads, be they Immortal, vampire, or zombie with.

So, how many other "Highlander" fans are lurking about out there?

Hmm, I must see the Highlander series properly someday.
Have only seen a few episodes here and there and that was a very long time ago. As far as I can remember it was great though...

The original movie is one of my all-time favorites. It's absolutely brilliant.
Second one was a disaster. Will recall that movie 3 was better but still not a good movie.

Haven't seen the rest. Must admit that I barely knew they existed...

/SK

Love Highlander; except for the last two films and that horrible spin-off; Raven I believe it was called?

Didn't like what happened with Richie; kind of killed the show for me.

I've been stewing over a Highlander/Buffy crossover fic for a long time now.

I must be one of only 6 people in the world who liked "Endgame."

"Highlander: The Raven" never really got my attention, either. I loved Amanda with Duncan, but on her own, she just couldn't seem to carry that kind of action show. Also, I've heard that Gracen's admission that she had had an affair with Bill Clinton hurt the show's popularity.

Highlander/Buffy crossovers used to be quite plentiful on the internet, but I haven't seen very many lately. Have you, by any chance, seen this:

It's one of a four part "Reunion" disc that was made several years ago featuring Methos, Amanda, and, in the other 3 paert (No longer on Youtube, unfortunately, Joe Dawson.

Hadn't seen that before; Methos had so much potential that got squandered IMO. On the subject of Endgame though. If it had been done right after the show ended, with some more convincing villians; I could see myself holding it up with the original.

As it stands I only liked the Duncan/Connor centric flashbacks; and the final fight. Especially the part where Connor shows himself and taunts Kell.

Are you quickening in trepidation over the remake?

From what I've read about the new movie, it'll be barely recognizable as the same character, so I doubt that my fond memories of the original are in any dander of being ruined.
About a year or two ago, I tried watching Highlander on Hulu. I remembered loving it when I was a kid (Duncan McLeod was droolable), but I couldn't get into it this time. 🙁

I am, but nothing like Buffy. As I am writing a Buffy/Highlander Crossover right now, I've been watching clips to remember how the characters are. When I first watched the show, Fitz was my favorite characters, but I'm starting to favor Methos these days.

I've seen several of the movies and watched the series in reruns.

This is one of the best Highlander/Buffy crossover videos I've seen in a long time.

I had never really thought of Methos and Faith together, but after seeing this, I think that they would be great together.

My dad was a huge Highlander fan, so I grew up watching the series. But as a kid, I never paid a lot of attention to it, just kind of watched it some when it was on. I really should do a big re-watch, including the movies. I've seen bits & pieces of some of them. Really like the whole storyline. I had no idea they were doing a remake!!! Now that I would like to see, strangely since I have no desire to see a Buffy reboot.

If my memory serves me well ... the original movie was great, one of may favourite films. the second movie was so good that i didn't realise there was a third 😛

"if i focus my life-force just right you two can escape and i can turn into Obi-wan kenobi"

i watched some of the first series so i'm chuffed to see your link there mary - thanks 🙂

Of the movies I've watched so far, the second was my fave too. Michael Ironside is one of my favorite villans. LOL

Just on a side note, I've always wondered if Joss had patterned the mysterious "Immortal" from "The Girl In Question" after one of the characters from the original TV show, Methos in particular, since the little bit that was mentioned about him in that episode would have fit Methos so well.

I don't know the answer to that, but I was wondering if you've seen any other Highlander references in his work?

Well, there's obviously:

1) the Watchers, though their functions aren't the same in both shows (I would love to see Giles wander into Joe Dawson's Blues Bar and do a duet after more than a few drinks) and

2) the "There Can Be Only One" theme and "One Girl In All The World," though, in the Highlander mythos we start out with a larger number who will eventually work down to one, whereas just the opposite has happened with the Slayers.

3) The Immortals' existence pretty much begins with a violent death, whereas the Slayer's ends that way.

4) Both have "potentials," who don't automatically become Immortals or Slayers, respectively. The potential Immortal has to die a violent death, otherwise they will live out their lives as normal humans, completely oblivious to what they could have, pretty much like the potential Slayers, unless they are identified in advance and trained by the Watchers' Council.

5) Originally in the movies, the Immortals were all men, or at least they never showed any females until the series, whereas all Slayers are women.

6) Immortals normally lead an abnormally long time, whereas no Slayer has lived past the age of 25.

7) Both Immortals and Slayers have accelerated healing and are forced by their circumstances to develop fighting skills far greater than any normal human in order to survive.

8) Both stories started out with the focus on a single lead character (Connor Macleod and Buffy Summers) and later introduced a second (Duncan Macleod and Kendra/Faith)

9) The names of the two characters, Whedon (Buffy) and Widen (Highlander) are similar sounding.

10) Both started as movies, then became TV series that each spawned a single spin off)

11) Both are facing a new "reboot" movie, neither of which will have any direct input from their respective creators, and that have mixed feelings among their respective fan bases.

I haven't seen highlander in a long while, but I can say that when I did watch it I loved it. Duncan was my favorite <3 Adrian Paul was one of my first celeb crushes lol. I really liked Tessa also. I actually named two of my dogs after them lol. I actually Own a replica of one of the swords used on the show... its very pretty 😀 <3 I used to own a lot of the movies also before loosing them in storage 🙁. My mom and I used to watch it all the time together and we were catching the reruns on scifi I think it was... Does anyone know if it's still running re-runs?

Oh, and the baddie from the Season 5 finale and first two episodes of Season 6 is a demon that pretends to be dead people, even those who are still alive ie Richie Ryan. Interesting.

I loved Highlander. I really wanted Duncan and Amanda to end up together. I loved Methos and I was so gutted when they killed off Richie. He was my favorite character!

I've never watched the original films. I was only into the series. I did watch the Endgame film though, which I thought was ok.
