And it never happened?! Okay, Joss, between this and "Ripper" I'm getting really angry. You can't keep mocking my dreams of more Buffy like this, it's just cruel. Seriously, this needs to happen. Most of the cast isn't doing much these days. Alyson will be done with HIMYM in about a year so she could do this. Plus, it would be a great way to introduce the show to a new audience. I guarantee it would be better than the majority of cartoons on TV today. Here is a short trailer I found on Youtube. I think it's the real deal,at least the actors sound mostly right, though something does seem very slightly off to me.

Oh and if anyone is interested here is an article from last week discussing the animated series: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/27/joss-whedon-buffy-animated-series_n_2371836.html

I was so sad that the animated series never took off. All the images I saw of it, as well as the short clips on YouTube, were so awesome and I think it could have done really well.

I keep hoping against hope that Joss will revive the Buffy franchise. It's obvious he is still passionate about it from the way he talks and the fact that he is doing the comics. I think the animated series would be a great way to do it.

There was some talk of doing a Buffy movie last year without Joss. However I have heard nothing about this lately.

Yep, there was an unaired pilot made, but no channel picked it up, because it was thought that it would be too violent for children to watch.

REALLY stupid reason. I mean, the original Batman animated series from the 90s was incredibly violent, it even had blood.

How did Buffy get out of that dragons mouth?

More specifically: how did she get out of that dragons mouth with her hands and feet still attached to her body?

What sounds off is that Sarah isn't voicing Buffy - everyone else is voiced by the original actor.

Also, if something about all this seems terribly familiar, reread issue 20 of season 8.

I remember watching the pilot for this back a few years ago (it was leaked online somewhere)
Pity it didn't get made, if you look at shows like Justice League or the Batman cartoon, their a great mix of adult and kid.

Though I'd like to think it would have gotten better then this, the dialogue is horrible, it's like they wrote each line individually, using only a punchy one liner as a requirement, then strung them together to create a narrative.
Also the voice acting is so bad, except for Nick, they sound like their trying to hard to put on a voice of that character whereas Nick sounds quite natural.

Ok facts the there is an Issue on the comics that toches on the animated pilot plot
Buffys VA was the same one from the game its not to bad
Nick would rock as a voice actor his was the most natural sounding
Im sure with some slight coaching Aly and ASH could sound great James would be a blast to I bet

And yes the show wouls have the same kinda of tone BAS (Batman the Animated series) would have most likely useing thae same tricks used there to make it dark and fun

It was cancelled due to fans and the public's reaction to the movie without any input of Joss Whedon and Co. and the fact SMG wasn't playing Buffy. So they dropped the idea.

Keep in mind, this was only a pilot, trying to gauge interest. Look at the Buffy pilot, and notice how not good it was, yet it got picked up anyway -- it's really about the concept and what potential it has, rather than how good it is on its own.

You can add a "Faith, The Vampire Slayer" series to your list of "coulda been but wasn't" Buffyverse projects, though that was at least as much Eliza's fault as Joss'. She was offered the series directly after "Buffy" ended, but chose to do "Tru Calling" instead. She's said in a couple of interviews since the demise of "Dollhouse" that she would be willing to reprise the role if it could be done properly, but, of course, nothing has come of it.

Seriously, this late, I think that the only thing that we have even a shadow of a chance of seeing would be a totally new series, with all new characters, and even that won't be coming anytime soon if it depends on any involvement from Joss. What with "S H I E L D" and "Avengers 2" coming up, plus his involvement with both Marvel and Dark Horse Comics, he's already burning the candle at both ends AND the middle. He just plain ain't got the time to devote to it.

Maybe Disney could buy it, like they bought the rights to "Star Wars," and the Marvel Group, and we would see something developed that way, with Joss having little or no involvement in it, but I'm not holding my breath.

Good. Because a Buffy movie WITHOUT Joss or SMG or any of the original cast for that matter isn't going to be any good

I think a lot of fans (and people in general) had planned to boycott it because of that. I, for one, am glad it didn't go any further.

As for the animated serie, I think Buffy has a strange resemblance with Sabrina (from Sabrina the teenage witch, the animated serie). Other than that it didn't seem too bad, but if they had picked it up they would've needed to turn it up a bit.

Thank goodness it was cancelled. 🙂

BTW, there was an animated episode of Buffy on youtube. I'm sure its still floating around somewhere.

I'm glad the cartoon didn't get picked up. The writing was awful "There are things in the dark. Dark things..." and Buffy was WAY too over powered.

I, however, want another Buffy game or an ANGEL game. An ANGEL game in the style of Devil May Cry would be a dream!

Good, I think that anything Buffy related where Joss doesn't have any involvement is doomed to be terrible. I mean, the series is his baby. SMG even said such in an interview. She was anti-reboot from the start, I believe. Same with some of the other cast

Ugh, don't get me started on the animated Sabrina series. It's utter garbage, In my opinion. The live-action show with Melissa Joan-Hart was so much better!

I'd LOVE more Buffy and Angel video games. Think a Buffyverse sandlot style game like the Batman: Arkham Asylum/City games. That would be all kinds of awesomeness.

I'd welcome an animated series, if Joss or other members of the original cast/production team were involved. It's hard to judge an entire concept on one episode, I find. Most times those types of things take a little bit of time to develop.

I think a game where you play as Angelus and Spike during their rampage through Europe could be fun. You'd have to try and stay a step ahead of Holtz and Slayers.

Trapseing around Sunnydale GTA style would be wicked fun for any and all fans
