Things That Don't Make Sense

Excuse me... I never saw where it was SAID it was a hotel room, but most of the time when the bed and everything is all in one room it's either a studio apartment or a hotel room. I assumed it was the latter.

*EDIT* I'm talking about Jenny's uncle's place, not Giles' apartment. I'm not that stupid to think Giles lived in a hotel.

Did they go to Jenny's uncle's place? Possible, but why, if each of them had a place of his/her own?

I'll have to rewatch, but I remember the place Giles went to, wherever it was, had a second floor. He found a table downstairs set for dinner, with a note directing him to go upstairs. He went upstairs and found a bedroom, with a bed, and Jenny in it dead. If I'm right, not everything was in one room.

Did Jenny invite Giles to her place before she died? Then it would be no problem for Angelus to enter her place, since the owner was dead. I don't remember for sure.

They didn't do a disinvitation on Giles' place, Jenny was found on Giles' bed. I think that with the Uncle it was a hotel room as Angelus could enter it as the Uncle didn't class it as home, unlike with Fred in Angel's hotel.

I thought that the demon was told the job by the Mayor, then it went to Giles as it knew Giles was in town, and as he owed Giles a favour he faked the spell for him.

Yer, I thought so too - its just that it seems slightly overwrought - how would the demon know that Giles would be interested in the job he was given by the Mayor? How would that demon know that Angel/ Mayor had any connection to Giles? maybe im thinking about it too much (which i probably am!). Is it just that the demon popped into Giles to say hi (because of their history) then they probably ended up chatting about why the demon was in town, which then Giles would find out about the Mayor's plans for Angel? I can just see them catching up over a cup of tea or something haaa

Actually now that ive written that I find it easier to conceive how it happened

Jenny was killed at the school. Her body was left in Giles' apartment. Either way, Angel got into his apartment.

I always thought the ending of "Normal Again" was weird. I mean everybody always just says the demon made her hallucinate all that asylum stuff, but then the ending totally suggests that the asylum was totally real and Sunnydale was just Buffy being crazy.
I mean why would it end like that if the asylum wasn't real? Once they gave her antidote her hallucinations should have just quit and nothing more about the asylum should have been featured, but then they show her going catatonic and the doc saying that they lost her. I mean WHAT????

I always thought the ending of "Normal Again" was weird. I mean everybody always just says the demon made her hallucinate all that asylum stuff, but then the ending totally suggests that the asylum was totally real and Sunnydale was just Buffy being crazy.
I mean why would it end like that if the asylum wasn't real? Once they gave her antidote her hallucinations should have just quit and nothing more about the asylum should have been featured, but then they show her going catatonic and the doc saying that they lost her. I mean WHAT????

I explain it simply by the antidote's effect not being immediate, so Buffy's hallucinations didn't disappear right after she took it.

Joss Whedon also commented that "Normal Again" was to leave the audience with their own decision. He personally felt it was "real." But they made it that way for us to pick for ourselves.

That's true! He would have had to sing about it when they were trying to find out what was causing it, because they all had to tell the truth when they sang. That's a really good one.

Another one was Tara's death. The angle of the shot didn't match the angle of the wound, and, depending on what kind of gun it was, it probably would have lost some momentum and not gone all the way through Tara. Plus, Willow was RIGHT in front of Tara. Had the bullet gone all the way through (which it looked a LOT like it had) then it would have hit Willow, and it didn't. Also, WHERE WAS ALL THE BLOOD? A wound like that, and she doesn't even bleed? I mean, the carpet in Joyce's old room wasn't even changed when Buffy started sleeping in there. Makes my head kinda spinny to think about it all.

She hadn't taken the antidote yet. She pours out the first cup, then tries to kill her friends, saves them, then the last we see is her asking Willow for another. Right after that is the last scene in the asylum, so we can assume that it happens before she's had the antidote.

And yes, also, Joss was trying to make us wonder if it really was real, but that's a separate point. 🙂

Just thought of some new ones while watching "Checkpoint:"

-Ok, this really bugs me: why do Buffy and Giles not immediately refuse to give in to Tarvers and his ridiculous tests? It takes the whole episode for them to realize, (and it's seemingly only Buffy though it should have easily been Giles too), that Tarvers and co have to give them the information they have about Glory because she's the slayer and who else is going to protect the world from her, hmm? There was never a point at which Buffy didn't have the upper hand in that ep. So silly.

- When asked what he contributes to the group, Xander admits that he has no "special skills" or knowledge that he contributes to the group. Why not mention his fake but very real army training? He states in "The Initiative" that he's great at hand-to-hand. Sure it's not much for a civilian fighting demons, but it's something and it bugs me that it isn't mentioned.

Yes, this bugs me too. I once re-watched that episode with a friend who watched it for the first time and about ten minutes in she said that Buffy should tell those idiots that their lives depended on her, so screw the tests.

He could have also mentioned the half a dozen time he saved Buffy. He could have told them he was hunting vampires when Buffy was not around after S2 and asked them nicely where were they back then. But I am pretty sure Xander lost most of his soldier memories in S4. Not that this made any sense either, mind you.

I always assumed that when the Mayor summoned the demon he mentioned he was trying to stop the Slayer. The demon knew Giles worked for the Council or that he was the Watcher to the current Slayer so he warned him as soon as he left the Mayor's. Or, the Mayor mentioned Giles by name as someone he wanted to 'get at' and, again, the demon warned him.

That 'open ending' reeeeally bugged me on first watch. One thing I always loved about the Buffy world was that it sold itself as totally uncompromisingly real. I didn't like that it was allowed to be read as an 'what if' delusion fantasy type thing 🙁
