What Angel did for Buffy:
I can think of so many things but will name just one thing.
He fought a demon ripped the heart for a potion which Angel fed to Buffy, so she would not hear people’s thoughts anymore in Earshot.

She took care of him after he came back and made sure Angel had what he needed. Buffy visited him and kept him company.

I agree with @Stake fodder; Angel leaving Buffy.
He realised that she would never have any chance for a normal life with a vampire around, on top of being a Slayer, and loved her enough to leave her, even if that was not what he wanted. Loving someone enough to refuse to ruin their life by staying around.

Buffy gave Angel her blood, made him drink from her to cure the "whatever" thing he had after getting shot with a laced arrow.
Angel gave up a chance to be normal and alive again so he would be able to continue to protect her, and everyone else, from demons and such.
