Title:Things Untold
Pairing:Spike/Buffy/Angel triangle
Background:Buffy Season 6 (between eps. 12 & 13)/ Angel Season 3

Chapter One: Anthropology

Buffy was lying on the bed, looking slightly the dark room. A fridge in an angle, an old television on the floor, fallen from its shelf. A wardrobe was crooked against the wall in front of her eyes, the door broken in many pieces scattered all around the bed.
She didn't even remember how they could arrive on the bed.
Buffy turned around to see the blonde vampire who was sleeping beside her. She could see his chest raising and sinking beneath the quilt.
Suddenly requiring heat, her body embraced auomatically the naked vampire.
Strangely, she was surprised not to find the heat she was looking for.
I had to know it. He's cold. He's dead, she thought breaking up that hug.
Buffy sat on the edge of the bed, now recovering her underwear from beneath the mattress, wondering how it got there.
She looked for the last time Spike, understanding for the first time how much she needed him.
She needed him as much as the air inside the stifling grave where she woke some months before.
She needed also Angel, but that was much different. She needed Angel in a pure way, she needed him because she wanted him. But she felt to need Spike because she couldn't help going to his crypt and knocking at his door, he was like a drug to her, and she couldn't help clinging to him like an anchore, that now was sinking with her...
She finally found her jeans and blouse and wore them, glanced for the last time at the dark, silent crypt before heading to the ladder and start climbing up.
As she emerged out of the grave that hid the passage to the underground crypt she shuddered, feeling againg as if she was in her tomb.
Buffy stepped fast towards the exit door of the mausoleum, and got out, nearly falling onto the wet grass of the graveyard, breathing deep, trying to escape claustrophobia, remembering that horrible night. The horrible night that turned her wrong. She finally figured it out when she found out Spike could hit her.
Who could she ask help?
First of all, she thought of Giles, but he wasn't there anymore.
Then, she thought of Willow, but she was afraid what she could think of her.
Tara, maybe? She was going to ask Tara. Yeah, tara could fix it up and keep her mouth shut.
Buffy shock her head to expel those thoughts that often disturbed her, wondering how she could get rid of that dependence, and if she could.
She suddenly noticed she was nerly out of the graveyard, and she felt guilty: she had been on parol for the last three nights, but she hadn't staken one single vampire yet.
Sighing, she stepped back, deciding that she would dust a couple of bad guys and then go back home before of the dawn. She'd got just an hour.
"I can't believe it took the whole night" she told herself, grabbing a stake out of her pocket, while a piece o plastic paper slipped out of it, pouring pieces of meat on the grass.
"What a miserable job" Buffy thought kicking the paper away.
She turned around, but she beated on a pallid chest.
She rose her eyes, that met Spike's.
"Oh, it's you" she said with disappointment.
"Crestfallen? Who were you expecting" he asked maliciously.
He was still shirtless, but he almost wore his pants.
"A vampire" she said thoughtfully.
Spike rose an elbow, sincerely amazed.
"And I'm not?" he asked, nearly hopefully.
Buffy suddenly figured out what she just said.
"Of course you are... it's just I don't consider you a bad guy" she said a little ashamed.
"Thank you" said Spike growing pissed, "but only because I don't drink human blood, I'm not a good guy! If you want I can also show you" he added at last, darkly.
"No, thanks" said Buffy, now haeding to the exit of the graveyard.
Spike grabbed her arm.
"Stop running away!" he said indignantly.
"What do you want?" Buffy asked desperately.
"You" he said.
Buffy was stunned by the firmness of that statement.
"You can't" she said after a while thinking.
She was confused. If she wanted him, why couldn't she have him? She wanted his body, she wanted his heart, his soul, blood and dust, all he could give her, all she could grab and feed of.
He has no soul. that's why you can't have it, and that's why you cant have him, she thought.
Spike started to unbutton her shirt, moving his hands on her.
But I can have his body

The sun rose slowly on the graveyard, touching slightly Buffy's cheeks. She woke up yawning and stretching, while a smoke smell started to fullfill her nose piercing it.
She turned around, and saw a little black line of dark smoke rising in the air from Spike's foot, now exposed to the sunlight.
With a very little care of the vampire, Buffy looked around searching her clothes for the second time in a few hours. They had sleeped on the grass, hidden between an hedge and a mausoleum.
Since she couldn't see her clothes, and she felt a little mercy for Spike, she woke him up: "Sun"
Spike startled, sprinting into the shadow of the mausoleum, as Buffy started to look for her clothes again.
When she had found them all, she sat on the grass beside Spike to wear them.
"Don't you get dressed?" she asked.
"No. You tore my pants" he said.
"Fine. Bye" she said as she was done.
But Spike wouldn't let her stand up.
"Stay with me" he begged.
"So you can burn. Great idea"
"No. Here. In the darkness" he said.
That sentence made Buffy think. Was she really going to choose between ligh and darkness? One year before she was sure of the answer, she would have told Spike "No". But she wasn't sure anymore. She wasn't sure of anything now.
"I have to go back home" she said weakly trying to break free of Spike's hands. He scanned her eyes carefully, searching some clue of how he could handle that mysterious and rebel girl. But he couldn't find anything, not a clue, nothing.
Buffy wriggled and stood up, walking firmly towards the sunny road, telling herself she was choosing the light this way, but she was afraid she had already chosen.

"I'm home" she shouted entering the hall.
Dawn was coming down the stairs when Buffy came in, stuffing books in her backpack.
"Hi, honey" Buffy said waving with a smile.
"Oh, Buff! Did you knock out any of those guys?" Dawn asked.
Buffy felt suddenly dirty, more than she had ever felt between Spike's arms, when everything seemed to be so easy and right.
"No. Not even one" Buffy said.
"But they haven't been around since a bit. Are you sure they aren't planning anything?" Dawn asked.
"I dunno, I'll ask Will" the Slayer said.
"Uh, allright. Make me know if there's anything about" Dawn said looking her sister hopefully.
Buffy moved her eyes off Dawn, flushing for the guiltiness.
Buffy sighed tiredly, heading to the kitchen. Here she found Willow making pancakes and waffles.
"Hey, Will. What is this for?" Buffy asked.
"Oh, hi Buff. This... this is just something for you and Dawn; you know, for your tiring patrol and her boring homework..."
"But..." Buffy incited her.
"But it's mostly for staying occupied and not thinking about magic or... Tara" she muttered sadly.
Buffy felt another bad twisting feeling at her stomach.
"I'm sorry I haven't been much helpful here, but..." she tryed to say.
"Oh, no. I'm fine! I know you have a lot to do... Where you done tonight?" Willow asked.
"What? No..." Buffy muttered.
"Hey, gulls, I'm here!" said Xander's voice from the hallway.
"Come on in!" Buffy shouted, as Willow started to pour pancakes and waffles into a saucepan.
"Hey, bad news" said Xander coming in.
"Good" said Willow, coming back to the cooker and smashing eggs.
"No good. D'you remember the project I was going to work on? When that guy hired me and my boys for a mall just outta the town?"
"Yep"
"Well, they required an extra underground hall. What can it be for if not for Vam..."
"...pires" finished Willow for him, "What's that?" she asked then, pointing a round red mark on Buffy's neck.
"Nothing" she said hiding it fast with an hand, "What were you saying?" she told Xander.
"Well, I think we should check and... stab" he said.
"I'm not going to stake the owner of a mall only because he wants an extra underground room... that could be parking, or a place or old stuff..."
"I Know, but I got a phone call, and..." he replied.
"By whom?" Willow asked.
Xander sighed, and glanced at Buffy in a bit of a shame.
"Angel"

Take but degree away, untune that string,
And hark, what discord follows! each thing meets
In mere oppugnancy.

"Troilus and Cressida?"
Angel tore his eyes off the book and rose them, meeting at once the girls's ones.
She was a sleam, little girl, roughly in her early twenties. Pretty, soft, blonde curls came down here and there, covering her shy, heart-shaped face.
She had not been saying a word since the train from the LA departed at three o'clock that morning, leaving the thick shroud of light and noise of the city, entering the deep, silent night.
The little compartment was full for the first hour of the journey, but now i was only Angel and the shy girl in there.
"Yep" Angel barely said, making his eyes turn on the page again; this time not really reading, not even seeing it.
"That's not one of the most known Shakespear's works, is it?" the girl said.
"That's why I like it" said Angel, keeping his eyes stubbornly on the empty black words that filled the blank.
The girl sighed and stood silent, reflecting on what could be the best way to make that mysterious, eerie guy sitting opposite to her.
After a couple of minutes, the girl said, offering her hand to Angel: "I'm Stephanie. You are..."
Angel didn't grab the hand, but rose his eyes up to Stephanie's.
"I'm Angel" he said in a creepy dark undertone.
Panic flooded instantly on Stephanie's face.
She retracted her hand, as if she had been offering it to a lion's mouth without noticing it all the time.
"I gotta get down to next station..." she merely said, as she stood up and started stepping aback slightly.
Angel stood up too, getting dangerously coloser to the girl.
"Don't you take your backpack?" he asked innocently.
"Thanks" Stephanie sharply said, grabbing it brutally.
Angel stood there, stopping her with a long, deep glare.
"Wanna see something?" he asked just like a child who wants his friend to see his new toy.
Stephanie glanced at the door behind her, then at the window, at last the floor beneath her.
Seeing she had no other choice, she swallowed hardly, moving forward to reach Angel, who was now looking for something into his own backpack.
"Unbelieveble! I was sure it was here somewhere! Wonder whether I left it home?" he said loudly, waving his arms in disappointment.
Stephanie got closer to his back. "What?" she asked under her breath.
A piercing pain that cut her breath off was the answer. She looked down at the stake sunk in her chest, and the strong hand that bore him. Then, she looked up, at the Angelic face turned into Devil's.
Suddenly Angel found himsilf covered in stinky ashes.
He spat some out of his mouth, and brushed the most of it down of his leather coat.
"Welcome back to Sunnydale" he sullenly told himself with a deep, melancholic sigh.

The taxi stopped right before that gracefull little house in the middle of Robello Road.
"Thanks" Angel muttered handing some cash to the fat, sweaty taxi driver, just before jumping out of the car, which departed a few seconds later, leaving him there, standing under the leaves of a wide tree that reached the top of the house.
Angel looked up.
The moon was high in the sky, and he was now wondering what time it could have been, since he took no watches with him because of the hurry.
Rubbing his hands to fight the cold, he moved forwards, until he reached the door.
He glanced for a while at the hall behind the glass, noticing, even though it was dark, that the house was still the same since he was there the last time.
Then, he ispected the door, checking the light wood.
A thunderthought hit him with the strenght of a powerful punch.
Did Buffy restore the spell of the Uninvited Vampire against him during the last few years, or was he still well accepted in her house.
Xander hadn't told him... he had told him nothing interesting so far, except maybe some "What?!" and some "Oh My God!".
"You can come in if you want"
ANgel looked around anxiously, trying to figure out where that voice came from.
"Up here" was the answer for his dumb question.
He rose his eyes, finding a fall of bright, brown hair coming down from a window up to the second floor.
"Shh! Dawn, no" he tried to whisper.
"What?" she asked loudly.
"Shh--" his whisper was interrupted by the sound of a throat clearing itself right behind him.
Damn it. The surprise-effect is way gone.
He turned around slowly, while framing the proud Slayer behind him.
A slight ironic smile crossed her face surrounded by short, golden curls.
Gosh, he missed that smile, that irony, that quizzical and brave behaviour he fall in love with.
Angel suddenly felt he needed to hear Buffy laugh as much as he needed blood; and finally her hot, excited (and exciting) blood issued a swell of fresh strawberries and musked wood, a swell that brighted harsh in a subtle line that crossed the space between he and his love, like a powerful and attractive bridge.
Buffy seemed to have noticed that too, because her smile flood off her face (NO!). They were connected.
"Buffy" he merely said.
"No, I'm Ashley, your new neighbor!" she said ironicly.
Angel sighed.
"Thought you got some humour as I was in a grave" she said shrugging.
Then she walked past him, heading to the door, and getting in the house.
She had left the door open, so Angel approached to it, but hesitated before stepping ahead.
"You can come in! You always can!" called Buffy from the kitchen.
Angel got into the warm hall, turning the light on, while little Dawn ran downstairs.
"Angel!" she called, throwing her arms around his neck.
"Dawn" Buffy said patiently entering the hall.
She let him go, and got sullen, then she ran upstairs again.
Buffy sighed, heading to the entrance door and closing it.
Angel rose his eyes and looked at Buffy.
She had took off her brown coat, and now Angel could see her wearing a light blue shirt and a pair of blue jeans.
As she turned around, Angel saw a long, deep cut on her left shoulder.
"What happened?" he asked, trying to touch it.
She snapped a couple steps away. "Nothin'" she muttered.
"You went to the Mall?" he asked angrly.
"I had to wait you during all the day?! I'm sorry but..."
"So?" he interrupted her.
"So what?"
"What did you find out?"
"I just wanted to check, but the underground hall was totally empty. I was attacked by a demon when I was coming back home. Now" she said then, "I want to know why the hell you're so sure that that hall will be for vampires"
Angel sighed, trying to set up his mind, which was too full.
"The Anointed One" he muttered, "We need Spike. I' afraid he didn't kill him, after all"

P.S.: I'm sorry for the terrible syntax of the period, but it's difficult to make it from Italian... 😱
