A few weeks ago, a magnitude 8.1 quake slammed Mexico City; then last Tuesday a 7.1, and this morning a 6.1 struck Oaxaca, which is a few hundred miles away from Mexico City. That last quake was felt as far away as San Diego, California.
I've always been of the opinion that earthquakes "travel" and one sets off another. Using that theory, a large quake should be hitting Los Angeles within a week.
Things you should always have;
Lots of batteries
A week's supply of water
Flashlights/torches
Battery operated radio
Canned food
A can opener! lol
You should always have an emergency stash of money; in the event of a natural disaster, there'll be power outages and you won't be able to use your cards. Plus, most businesses that ARE open will only accept cash.
Always have an extra charger for your phone...be sure that your phones are at 100% before you go to bed. Make it a habit. Keep the chargers charged as well.
Of course, if it's a massive quake that strikes in the early morning, and you reside in a high-rise building.....the elevators will be out of order, so take the stairs. It's vital that you stay calm. Get out of the building as quickly as possible. If it collapses, you'll be a smooshed human casserole. You know what burritos look like when they're unwrapped? That'll be you. A giant portion of Hamburger Helper with lots of ketchup.
This has been a public service announcement.
