This changed my whole idea of Joss Whedon.

I just think he said something that is amazing. I like Joss again. (I have no idea how to embed.)
From 5:00 onwards is what amazed me.

Edit:
It embeds automatically? Cool!

Are you talking about what he says about that he would totally chuck everything in the comics for the chance to do a Buffy movie? If so, I've heard that before.

But I want to thank you for making me waste a whole bunch of time watching all those PaleyFest videos when I should be out Christmas shopping! LOL!!

Yeah, but I've never heard it again and it makes me ENTIRELY happy for him to say that.

I know! I watched it aswell, it's great! 😀 Amber and Seth are hilarious!

Chucking the entire Season 8 and making a Buffy movie might be the only way that he will ever get people to like you-know-who again. Of course, if he actually were to make a new movie, it would be almost a sure bet that he would have to re-cast most, if not all, of the major rolls. All of the original crew are either too old, too busy, or just don't want to reprise their pld roles, regardless of what they might say to the contrary.

It would be neat to make a movie that takes place 10 years after Chosen. Maybe Buffy has a kid, Xander's married, Willow has a better girlfriend (or Tara comes back!). I think that would be cool.
When the Paleyfest actually happened I was fiercely angry about this. I had invested time and money into the comics on the basis of believing them to be canon. That was very early on in all this. I didn't know how badly this would all play out. Not surprisingly, I don't feel that way anymore. If the comics were scrapped tomorrow I don't think I'd lose sleep.

What I do find interesting is how non-committal he is in regards calling S8 canon. Added to his willingness to let the last 40 isses just go, kinda changing my opinion on how substantial these stories really are in canon. He doesn't exactly make a case for it does he?

WA, I disagree- I don't think "most fans" even read the comics. It's just us stupid die-hards. 😀

Kean, I wonder if Scott Allie would say differently. I think he's invested a lot more time, work, and energy in season 8 than Joss.

Did anybody else think that Charisma looked uncomfortable? She didn't talk much at all. OF course I didn't watch the first videos, just this one on.

I saw the whole thing and yes, she didn't say much at all, but then Seth Green and Nick Brendon talked enough for everybody so 😉

Definitely. I thought so when I originally watched it too. Seth Green pulled her into discussion a few times but mostly she looked widely uncomfortable. Especially when they asked what new projects she had going on and she had none. 🙁

I'm probably off base, but I've always thought that he 'considered' the comics cannon just to get those extra few people to read them that, that kind of thing really matters to. Him saying that he would be willing to ditch it all together doesn't surprise me at all.

Yeah, I've been rather slow coming around to this conclusion. Pity I didn't have this epiphany a few hundred euros ago 😉

I, for one, am glad to consider the comics noncannon. I started reading them because they were (or so I thought), but then it all just went to hell in a hand basket (and apparently, I didn't even get to the worst part!), so I discounted their value. The show is what matters to me. I don't even like to think about most of the comic.

It's just sad because it's probably the closest we'll get to more Jossful Buffy. If the movie fails they'll let it die and if it doesn't they'll leave Joss out of it.

Which is too bad, I think she's a great actress & gorgeous too. Aside from DB, AH, & JM everybody else is just not working as much as I think they should be. They're such a talented group. Or maybe they're all just very happy doing what they're doing & I'm just projecting my desires on them LOL.

Honestly, at this point, I think it's all about making money for Joss. I don't even think he cares about these characters OR the fans anymore; I get the idea that he'd do anything to make a buck.

I really like the comics existing because it gives the show a continuation from the creator and keeps Buffy alive. I don't really worry about them being canon and kind of think of them more of a theory on what could have happened next or some sort of else world that came to life after season 7 of Buffy, but I don't really see them as having any weight on the show. The comics are so different than the show, that I really can't think of them as directly connected.

I like this point of view! :)

That's a sad thought. But it's not so much his fault, since the network, all the higher people who do care about money and money only, they are the ones making the decisions for him and give him no choice in many departments. They turned him and Buffy into something that's pure for money. And the new Buffy movie proves it.

That is so unfair to say. If he's just doing it for the money, he wouldn't be trying to rip our hearts out. He'd be licking out butts, bringing Tara back, make Buffy get together with Angel or Spike and live happily ever after, kill Kennedy, and so on.

I agree, him being ready to just de-canonize 40 issues makes me dislike him a bit. There are people that paid for the issues simply because they're canon, and he was willing to screw them over. And it's not that nice for season 8 lovers to hear either. That was really info we should have gotten when he first called it canon, that it was "until-I-can-make-a-movie canon".

But I don't think he's in it for the money. I think he really enjoys telling this story, in the way he thinks it should be told.

Totally agree. I don't think Joss would do it for the money!
