8/26/1920 - The 19th Amendment Adopted - the 19th amendment guaranteed women the right to vote, it was formally adopted into the U.S. Constitution by proclamation of Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby.
1346 - Battle of Crecy - during the hundred years war, King Edward III's army annihilates a French force under King Philip VI at the battle of Crecy in Normandy. The battle is regarded as one of the most decisive in history
1944 - French General Charles de Gaulle enters a now unoccupied France.
1957 - Ford motor company rolled out the 1st Edsel. Named after Henry Ford's son. 110,847 Edsel's were built before the company officially ended the lame duck project.
1957 - The USSR announces that it has successfully tested an ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile.
1970 - The greatest left handed (heck maybe the greatest) guitar player ever opens up The Electric Lady recording studio in New York City. He would die in a month.
